The Shape of Space Revisited, and More Discussion of the Speed of Light

Because I believe that I am contradicting everyone else when I say that the shape of space is ‘dilated’ the further away you move from a gravitational source (it becomes ‘slacker’ and more ‘stretched out’) I thought that I had better revisit this whole business of the shape of space one more time. I don’t mind contradicting everyone else if there is a good reason to do so, and I don’t mind making mistakes providing that I correct them as I go along. My goal is to make something ‘float in mid –air’ and how many twists and turns in the road it takes before I get there does not concern me.

Now I am suggesting here that the gravitational field is an electromagnetic energy field, and that what we call ‘three dimensional space’ is actually a creation of this field. I am also suggesting the reason why light ‘red-shifts’ and becomes a longer wave-length as it travels up a gravitational field is because all space is the same to electromagnetic radiation, and therefore when the ‘shape of space’ changes, therefore the EM wave adapts. When space dilates (becomes looser and more stretched out) then the wave becomes red-shifted. This contradicts the usual explanation for gravitational red-shifting which states that the EM wave ‘loses energy to the earth’s gravitational field’. I am saying that it conserves its energy and therefore it red-shifts.

The fact that extremely red-shifted quasars are now found right next door would support my hypothesis, and no one else has an hypothesis right at the moment, and I do, so this might be a strong indication that I am right and the conventional wisdom is wrong, since the conventional wisdom is stumped when it comes to explaining red-shifted quasars next door.

However, I want to be sure I am right, so I decided to revisit this whole business of the shape of space one more time, to think it over some more.

Both John and Marge measure the official one meter long stick using such and such a number of wavelengths of a certain frequency of electromagnetic radiation. Both John, who is up in space, and Martha, who is down on earth, use the correct frequency to measure their stick and they both get a length for that stick of one meter.

Martha sends that frequency up to John. John does not use Martha’s frequency to measure his meter stick because he can clearly see that it is red-shifted and thus would give him the wrong measurement.

Let me tell you people something. Is it ever hard to think about things like this.

But let’s make things even more confusing. John sends Mary a sample of meter stick measuring light. In order for that sample of light conform to the energy requirements of Mary’s space, it must become blue shifted when Mary receives John’s light, the reversal of what happened when Mary sent John a sample and it was red-shifted as it rose through the gravitational field.

Now John sees that Martha’s light is red-shifted, which implies that Martha’s light was blue shifted at the source. This implies that Martha’s stick must be shorter than John’s stick, because you cannot measure a one meter stick with a narrow wavelength and still get one meter out of it unless you are measuring a shorter stick. The fact that the light Mary sent up to John was red-shifted when John received it is telling John that he would not want to use Mary’s reference point to measure his stick, or it will turn out to be longer than a meter stick, therefore John must use a wave length appropriate to his own space so that he can get the corrected shorter measurement for that stick of his up in space. Therefore Mary is sending John a message, and she is telling John that he has the longer stick and she has the shorter stick.

John sends Martha a sample of his measuring light, and by the time Martha receives this light, it is blue shifted. Martha cannot use John’s light to measure her stick because it would turn out to short.

Now the question I have to ask, is that given that Mary has the slower clock speed down on earth, a well established fact verified again and again by experimentation, why is it that Mary cannot use John’s blue shifted light to measure her stick. She has the extra time. She has a slow second. However Mary must use a lower frequency of light, with a longer wavelength to measure her stick if it is to be a one meter stick.

Now the fact that John is receiving longer red-shifted light out in space, and Mary is receiving shorter blue-shifted light on earth, is telling us something about the shape of space. Mary has contracted space, and John has the expanded dilated space.

Now we also know that John has the faster clock, and Mary has the slower clock. We also know that Mary must switch to the lower frequency of light to get the right number of wavelengths to pass by in that slow second of hers in order to measure a meter stick. Now if Mary tests the speed of light, she finds that it is 300,000 kilometers per second, and John, out in space gets the same result. However John just sent Mary a message by sending her blue shifted light, and Mary sent the same message to John by sending him red-shifted light. It would seem to me that John was telling Mary that the reason why she has such a slow clock down there is that the speed of light is slower, relative to the speed of light in John’s position out in space. The speed of light is variable constant. It seems the same to each observer when they measure it in their own frame, but actually it is a variable constant.

What I am proposing here is something I have believed for a long time, but it is such a radical idea that if I am going to propose that the reason for time dilation is a variable speed of light I had better make sure I am right, because that will be a very controversial idea, and I would be contradicting just about everyone else on the planet. I don’t mind contradicting everyone else on the planet, and I don’t mind being wrong if someone can explain where I am wrong so I can be convinced by their argument, thoroughly convinced, and then move on to other things.

Let’s examine the shape of the three dimensional space created by a magnetic field. It follows the requirements of the inverse square law. We have a meter stick and we have light paired together and we move them down the well. Time moves slower the further down the well you go. Therefore the speed at which light must travel to measure a meter stick must be faster higher up in the well, and it must be slower further down in the well to achieve the same result. Therefore it would seem that the slowing of the passage of time is related to the fact that all spaces are equal, and for that to be true it is required not only that space contraction and dilation take place, but also that the speed of light adjust by either speeding up or slowing down to accommodate that space. So then the speed of light is relative, and it only appears constant, but it is actually a variable constant.

Now can we reverse this analysis and resolve the issue in favor of the prevailing orthodox interpretation which holds that the speed of light is an invariant constant, and do so by reversing the stretching of space, such that space becomes more stretched out closer to the gravitational source? In that case you have a stretched out space, and Mary receives blue shifted light, and now she is in even more trouble than before, because not only does she have that unexplained slow second to measure her stick, the light is blue shifted and she has an even longer stick. As for John he has an even shorter stick and a shorter second to use to measure that stick and he just received red-shifted light from Mary down on earth, so he is in the same bad spot.

To make matters even worse, I can explain why light would appear red-shifted in a quasar next door, but if I have to agree with everyone else about space and time and the speed of light, then suddenly I can explain nothing. So therefore, for that reason, I will draw the conclusion that I am correct and will maintain that position until such a time as someone can come up with a really convincing argument that would satisfy me and allow me to change my mind and carry on from there, holding to the orthodox interpretation not simply because it was orthodox, but because someone was able to thoroughly convince me that it was justified to hold this orthodox position.
