The Pioneer Spacecraft and Relative Velocity

Dropping Newton’s Apple

applerm.gif - 4800 Bytes

In the image above we see the gravitational field giving energy to Newton’s Apple to fuel its acceleration as it falls in the gravitational field. When Newton’s Apple hits the ground, it is no longer accelerating, but it is still falling, while to keep it falling, the gravitational field is constantly giving Newton’s Apple more energy. Thus the bar graph on the right shows the Relativistic Mass of Newton’s Apple steadily increasing as it lies on the ground accumulating momentum without accelerating as the gravitational field continues to feed Newton’s Apple with more of that falling energy it requires.

In the image above we can see that Newton’s Apple has fallen to the ground, and the gravitational field continues to give Newton’s Apple more energy, so that it will not become weightless, but Newton’s Apple is on the ground now and so it does not want to accept anymore energy from the gravitational field because being on the ground, it does not need to fall anymore. Therefore it gives back every energetic donation, returning it to the gravitational field, as objects do when they are no longer falling, but are found sitting on the ground. As Newton said, and as we see all the time in the real world, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore with the gravitational field making energy donations to Newton’s Apple, thus causing the Apple to fall down, and Newton’s Apple now rejecting all such donations because it is done falling and is on the ground and thus does not need any more donations, the net effect is to have two equal and opposite forces canceling each other out, and it is for this reason that if we were to weight Newton’s Apple on a scale, the result is always zero.

Robbing Venus

robvenusg.gif - 3956 Bytes

In the image above we see a space craft attempting to accelerate on its way to Jupiter by robbing energy from the gravitational field of Venus. Unfortunately, the stunt backfires, for when the object is falling into the gravitational field of Venus, it gets donations of energy from the field, and then when it is falling up it must make return donations to the same gravitational field, for a net increase of zero.

In the image above we can see how some spaceship tried to gain momentum by robbing Venus of momentum, and that time the stunt did work, and as a result the orbit of Venus slowed down enough that Venus was later found to be in an orbit one micrometer closer to the Sun.

In the image above we see a comet fragment racing through the gravitational field of Jupiter. Like Newton’s Apple, the comet fragment did not need any donations of energy to accelerate, because it was not accelerating. However to an observer on Earth, watching that comet fragment pick up speed, it appeared that the comet fragment was accelerating at tremendous speed, as indicated by the stretched shape of the comet in the image above, as it went faster and faster the closer it got to Jupiter.

What the observer was actually seeing was the live real world effects of relativity theory, for as time slowed down and the comet fragment had to conserve momentum and cover the same distance using a slower and slower clock, it seemed to accelerate. This apparent acceleration was required by the law of the conservation of momentum, for it was the only way that comet fragment could conserve its momentum and thus move through space at the rate required by the conserved momentum possessed by that comet fragment. No donations of energy from the gravitational field were required to fuel this acceleration because velocity is relative and will always be found to conform to conserved momentum and gravitational acceleration is an ‘optical illusion’. At the same time the density of the comet fragment was increasing as it went deeper into the field, for the field is always denser nearer the center and less dense further out (as dictated by the inverse square law). This results in a relative increase in the energy level of the comet fragment due to increasing density of the energy state of that comet as it adapts itself to the changing spatial gradient in the energy field. This contributes to the optical illusion that some comet fragment accelerated and this acceleration then caused a huge explosion on Jupiter. The truth is that explosive force is also relative, and that the energy level of an object is also relative. There is no ‘absolute temperature’ for the exact same energy state will produce different temperatures depending upon the allowable energy density of the spatial gradient in which that temperature is to be measured, for the measurement of an energetic object is the measurement of the density of its field and this density is relative to the requirements of the spatial gradient which dictates allowable energy densities.

The Loss of Velocity of the Pioneer Spacecraft

Pioneer Anomaly

The Problem with Gravity: New Mission Would Probe Strange Puzzle

The two Pioneer Spacecraft are on their way out of the solar system altogether, having spent the past few decades traveling through space in search of the edge of the solar system and the beginnings of ‘outer space’. Apparently they have reached the threshold for now the Pioneer Spacecraft are slowing down. This loss of velocity has alarmed scientists who are now combing through decades of data, checking to see if this loss of velocity is real, or only an artifact created by the method of computer data storage techniques. According to scientists, either there is some strange unknown force in the universe we don’t yet know about, which is pulling Pioneer back towards the sun, or we need some new physics.

The explanation for the slowing of the Pioneer craft is the reverse of the explanation for the acceleration of a comet fragment as it approached Jupiter. What has happened is that the Pioneer craft are nearing the edge of the solar system, and now the gravitational time contraction caused by the sun is growing weaker, and time is speeding up, and so, to conserve momentum, the Pioneer craft are now decelerating. Now strange unknown force in the universe is required to explain this loss of velocity. No transfer of energy is required to slow the Pioneer craft, just as no transfer of energy is required to explain the apparent acceleration of an object falling (or rising) in a gravitational field. What our scientists are seeing is another live demonstration of relativity theory, and what we are discovering is that velocity is relative to the ‘space-time’ in which it is measured. The conserved momentum of the Pioneer craft is producing a lower velocity now that the clock is beginning to run faster. What this indicates is just how over-powering the influence of the sun is when it comes to setting the relative time in the space occupied by our solar system. It will be required to put quite a bit of distance between the sun and an object before that object will begin to encounter noticeable effects of time dilation as the slowing of time by gravitational field of the sun diminishes and the clock begins to run fast.

The end result of this process is the exact opposite of apparent gravitational acceleration. It is deceleration, and in both cases, whether the conserved momentum of an object results in acceleration or deceleration, the cause is the same in both cases. Velocity is relative and a given momentum will produce different velocities in different spaces running different clocks. If the clock is running slower momentum will be conserved by means of relative acceleration and if the clock is running faster momentum will be conserved by means of relative deceleration, such is happening to the Pioneer craft. The craft are conserving their momentum, and for that reason, given the space they are now moving into, the velocity of the craft must decrease as the craft begin the process of exiting the gravitational field of the sun.

What this deceleration implies is that in the ‘flat’ or ‘loose’ space between stars the potential velocity of a craft increases. If the speed limit for a craft traveling in three dimensional space lies just below the speed of light, and if a given momentum results in a lower velocity in that space, this means that the potential total velocity of that craft is increasing as it enters space outside the gravitational field. It would take more momentum to bring that craft up to its former speed and reverse the deceleration, which means that it would take more momentum to reach a speed just below the speed of light. Therefore the potential velocity of that object is increasing at the same time that we see its velocity decreasing given the momentum that it currently possesses.

This loss of velocity therefore implies that the speed of light is a variable constant. Like everything else the speed of light is relative.
