MATTHEW Chapter 26 1 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples, 2 "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified." 3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5 But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult among the people." 6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head, as he sat at table. 8 But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? 9 For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum, and given to the poor." 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her." 14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, "What will you give me if I deliver him to you?" And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him. 17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the passover?" 18 He said, "Go into the city to a certain one, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at your house with my disciples.'" 19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the passover. 20 When it was evening, he sat at table with the twelve disciples; 21 and as they were eating, he said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." 22 And they were very sorrowful, and began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?" 23 He answered, "He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me, will betray me. 24 The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." 25 Judas, who betrayed him, said, "Is it I, Master?" He said to him, "You have said so." 26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." 30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' 32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee." 33 Peter declared to him, "Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away." 34 Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." 35 Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you." And so said all the disciples. 36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go yonder and pray." 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt." 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, thy will be done." 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand." 47 While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him." 49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, "Hail, Master!" And he kissed him. 50 Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. 51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?" 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. 56 But all this has taken place, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him and fled. 57 Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward 61 and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" 62 And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" 63 But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." 64 Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." 65 Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66 What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death." 67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him, 68 saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?" 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him, and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean." 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean." 71 And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth." 72 And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you." 74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the cock crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly. |

MARK Mark 14:1 It was now two days before the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth, and kill him; Mark 14:2 for they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult of the people." Mark 14:3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. Mark 14:4 But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was the ointment thus wasted? Mark 14:5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given to the poor." And they reproached her. Mark 14:6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. Mark 14:7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me. Mark 14:8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burying. Mark 14:9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her." Mark 14:10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. Mark 14:11 And when they heard it they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. Mark 14:12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?" Mark 14:13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him, Mark 14:14 and wherever he enters, say to the householder, 'The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?' Mark 14:15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us." Mark 14:16 And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. Mark 14:17 And when it was evening he came with the twelve. Mark 14:18 And as they were at table eating, Jesus said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me." Mark 14:19 They began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one after another, "Is it I?" Mark 14:20 He said to them, "It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. Mark 14:21 For the Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." Mark 14:22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." Mark 14:23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. Mark 14:24 And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Mark 14:25 Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." Mark 14:26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Mark 14:27 And Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.' Mark 14:28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee." Mark 14:29 Peter said to him, "Even though they all fall away, I will not." Mark 14:30 And Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times." Mark 14:31 But he said vehemently, "If I must die with you, I will not deny you." And they all said the same. Mark 14:32 And they went to a place which was called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I pray." Mark 14:33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. Mark 14:34 And he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch." Mark 14:35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. Mark 14:36 And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; remove this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what thou wilt." Mark 14:37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? Mark 14:38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Mark 14:39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. Mark 14:40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to answer him. Mark 14:41 And he came the third time, and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come; the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Mark 14:42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand." Mark 14:43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. Mark 14:44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him and lead him away under guard." Mark 14:45 And when he came, he went up to him at once, and said, "Master!" And he kissed him. Mark 14:46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. Mark 14:47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear. Mark 14:48 And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Mark 14:49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the scriptures be fulfilled." Mark 14:50 And they all forsook him, and fled. Mark 14:53 And they led Jesus to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes were assembled. Mark 14:54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the guards, and warming himself at the fire. Mark 14:55 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus to put him to death; but they found none. Mark 14:56 For many bore false witness against him, and their witness did not agree. Mark 14:57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, Mark 14:58 "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.'" Mark 14:59 Yet not even so did their testimony agree. Mark 14:60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" Mark 14:61 But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, "I am; and you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." Mark 14:63 And the high priest tore his garments, and said, "Why do we still need witnesses? Mark 14:64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?" And they all condemned him as deserving death. Mark 14:65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to strike him, saying to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with blows. Mark 14:66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the maids of the high priest came; Mark 14:67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and said, "You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus." Mark 14:68 But he denied it, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you mean." And he went out into the gateway. Mark 14:69 And the maid saw him, and began again to say to the bystanders, "This man is one of them." Mark 14:70 But again he denied it. And after a little while again the bystanders said to Peter, "Certainly you are one of them; for you are a Galilean." Mark 14:71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know this man of whom you speak." Mark 14:72 And immediately the cock crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and wept. |

LUKE Luke 22:1 Now the feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. Luke 22:2 And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death; for they feared the people. Mark 14:10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. Mark 14:11 And when they heard it they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. Luke 22:3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve; Luke 22:4 he went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. Luke 22:5 And they were glad, and engaged to give him money. Luke 22:6 So he agreed, and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude. Luke 22:7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Luke 22:8 So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat it." Luke 22:9 They said to him, "Where will you have us prepare it?" Luke 22:10 He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters, Luke 22:11 and tell the householder, 'The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?' Luke 22:12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there make ready." Luke 22:13 And they went, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. Luke 22:17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, "Take this, and divide it among yourselves; Luke 22:18 for I tell you that from now on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Luke 22:20 And likewise the cup after supper, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. Luke 22:31 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, Luke 22:32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren." Luke 22:33 And he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death." Luke 22:34 He said, "I tell you, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, until you three times deny that you know me." Luke 22:40 And when he came to the place he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." Luke 22:41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, Luke 22:42 "Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." Luke 22:43 Luke 22:44 Luke 22:45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, Luke 22:46 and he said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation." Mark 14:43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. Luke 22:47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him; Luke 22:48 but Jesus said to him, "Judas, would you betray the Son of man with a kiss?" Luke 22:49 And when those who were about him saw what would follow, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" Luke 22:50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. Luke 22:51 But Jesus said, "No more of this!" And he touched his ear and healed him. Luke 22:52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? Luke 22:53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." Luke 22:55 and when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. Luke 22:56 Then a maid, seeing him as he sat in the light and gazing at him, said, "This man also was with him." Luke 22:57 But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him." Luke 22:58 And a little later some one else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not." Luke 22:59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, "Certainly this man also was with him; for he is a Galilean." Luke 22:60 But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying." And immediately, while he was still speaking, the cock crowed. Luke 22:61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times." Luke 22:62 And he went out and wept bitterly. |
