The Gospel of Matthew
Chapter 19

MATTHEW
Chapter 19

1 Now when Jesus had
finished these sayings, he
went away from Galilee
and entered the region of
Judea beyond the Jordan;
2 and large crowds
followed him, and he
healed them there.
3 And Pharisees came up
to him and tested him by
asking, "Is it lawful to
divorce one's wife for any
cause?"
4 He answered, "Have you
not read that he who made
them from the beginning
made them male and
female,
5 and said, 'For this
reason a man shall leave his
father and mother and be
joined to his wife, and the
two shall become one
flesh'?
6 So they are no longer
two but one flesh. What
therefore God has joined
together, let not man put
asunder."
7 They said to him, "Why
then did Moses command
one to give a certificate of
divorce, and to put her
away?"
8 He said to them, "For
your hardness of heart
Moses allowed you to
divorce your wives, but
from the beginning it was
not so.
9 And I say to you:
whoever divorces his wife,
except for unchastity, and
marries another, commits
adultery."

10 The disciples said to
him, "If such is the case of
a man with his wife, it is
not expedient to marry."
11 But he said to them,
"Not all men can receive
this saying, but only those
to whom it is given.
12 For there are eunuchs
who have been so from
birth, and there are
eunuchs who have been
made eunuchs by men, and
there are eunuchs who
have made themselves
eunuchs for the sake of the
kingdom of heaven. He
who is able to receive this,
let him receive it."

13 Then children were
brought to him that he
might lay his hands on
them and pray. The
disciples rebuked the
people;
14 but Jesus said, "Let the
children come to me, and
do not hinder them; for to
such belongs the kingdom
of heaven."
15 And he laid his hands
on them and went away.

16 And behold, one came
up to him, saying,
"Teacher, what good deed
must I do, to have eternal
life?"
17 And he said to him,
"Why do you ask me about
what is good? One there is
who is good. If you would
enter life, keep the
commandments."
18 He said to him,
"Which?" And Jesus said,
"You shall not kill, You
shall not commit adultery,
You shall not steal, You
shall not bear false witness,
19 Honor your father and
mother, and, You shall
love your neighbor as
yourself."
20 The young man said to
him, "All these I have
observed; what do I still
lack?"
21 Jesus said to him, "If
you would be perfect, go,
sell what you possess and
give to the poor, and you
will have treasure in
heaven; and come, follow
me."
22 When the young man
heard this he went away
sorrowful; for he had great
possessions.
23 And Jesus said to his
disciples, "Truly, I say to
you, it will be hard for a
rich man to enter the
kingdom of heaven.
24 Again I tell you, it is
easier for a camel to go
through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter
the kingdom of God."
25 When the disciples
heard this they were greatly
astonished, saying, "Who
then can be saved?"
26 But Jesus looked at
them and said to them,
"With men this is
impossible, but with God
all things are possible."
27 Then Peter said in
reply, "Lo, we have left
everything and followed
you. What then shall we
have?"
28 Jesus said to them,
"Truly, I say to you, in the
new world, when the Son
of man shall sit on his
glorious throne, you who
have followed me will also
sit on twelve thrones,
judging the twelve tribes of
Israel.
29 And every one who has
left houses or brothers or
sisters or father or mother
or children or lands, for my
name's sake, will receive a
hundredfold, and inherit
eternal life.

30 But many that are first
will be last, and the last
first.

MARK

Mark 10:1 And he left
there and went to the
region of Judea and beyond
the Jordan, and crowds
gathered to him again; and
again, as his custom was,
he taught them.
Mark 10:2 And Pharisees
came up and in order to
test him asked, "Is it lawful
for a man to divorce his
wife?"
Mark 10:3 He answered
them, "What did Moses
command you?"
Mark 10:4 They said,
"Moses allowed a man to
write a certificate of
divorce, and to put her
away."
Mark 10:5 But Jesus said
to them, "For your
hardness of heart he wrote
you this commandment.
Mark 10:6 But from the
beginning of creation, 'God
made them male and
female.'
Mark 10:7 'For this reason
a man shall leave his father
and mother and be joined
to his wife,
Mark 10:8 and the two
shall become one flesh.' So
they are no longer two but
one flesh.
Mark 10:9 What therefore
God has joined together,
let not man put asunder."
Mark 10:10 And in the
house the disciples asked
him again about this
matter.
Mark 10:11 And he said to
them, "Whoever divorces
his wife and marries
another, commits adultery
against her;
Mark 10:12 and if she
divorces her husband and
marries another, she
commits adultery."

Mark 10:13 And they
were bringing children to
him, that he might touch
them; and the disciples
rebuked them.
Mark 10:14 But when
Jesus saw it he was
indignant, and said to them,
"Let the children come to
me, do not hinder them; for
to such belongs the
kingdom of God.
Mark 10:15 Truly, I say to
you, whoever does not
receive the kingdom of
God like a child shall not
enter it."
Mark 10:16 And he took
them in his arms and
blessed them, laying his
hands upon them.

Mark 10:17 And as he
was setting out on his
journey, a man ran up and
knelt before him, and asked
him, "Good Teacher, what
must I do to inherit eternal
life?"
Mark 10:18 And Jesus
said to him, "Why do you
call me good? No one is
good but God alone.
Mark 10:19 You know the
commandments: 'Do not
kill, Do not commit
adultery, Do not steal, Do
not bear false witness, Do
not defraud, Honor your
father and mother.'"
Mark 10:20 And he said to
him, "Teacher, all these I
have observed from my
youth."
Mark 10:21 And Jesus
looking upon him loved
him, and said to him, "You
lack one thing; go, sell
what you have, and give to
the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven; and
come, follow me."
Mark 10:22 At that saying
his countenance fell, and he
went away sorrowful; for
he had great possessions.
Mark 10:23 And Jesus
looked around and said to
his disciples, "How hard it
will be for those who have
riches to enter the kingdom
of God!"
Mark 10:24 And the
disciples were amazed at
his words. But Jesus said
to them again, "Children,
how hard it is to enter the
kingdom of God!
Mark 10:25 It is easier for
a camel to go through the
eye of a needle than for a
rich man to enter the
kingdom of God."
Mark 10:26 And they
were exceedingly
astonished, and said to him,
"Then who can be saved?"
Mark 10:27 Jesus looked
at them and said, "With
men it is impossible, but
not with God; for all things
are possible with God."
Mark 10:28 Peter began to
say to him, "Lo, we have
left everything and
followed you."
Mark 10:29 Jesus said,
"Truly, I say to you, there
is no one who has left
house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or
children or lands, for my
sake and for the gospel,
Mark 10:30 who will not
receive a hundredfold now
in this time, houses and
brothers and sisters and
mothers and children and
lands, with persecutions,
and in the age to come
eternal life.

Mark 10:31 But many that
are first will be last, and the
last first."

LUKE

Luke 18:15 Now they
were bringing even infants
to him that he might touch
them; and when the
disciples saw it, they
rebuked them.
Luke 18:16 But Jesus
called them to him, saying,
"Let the children come to
me, and do not hinder
them; for to such belongs
the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:17 Truly, I say to
you, whoever does not
receive the kingdom of
God like a child shall not
enter it."

Luke 18:18 And a ruler
asked him, "Good Teacher,
what shall I do to inherit
eternal life?"
Luke 18:19 And Jesus said
to him, "Why do you call
me good? No one is good
but God alone.
Luke 18:20 You know the
commandments: 'Do not
commit adultery, Do not
kill, Do not steal, Do not
bear false witness, Honor
your father and mother.'"
Luke 18:21 And he said,
"All these I have observed
from my youth."
Luke 18:22 And when
Jesus heard it, he said to
him, "One thing you still
lack. Sell all that you have
and distribute to the poor,
and you will have treasure
in heaven; and come,
follow me."
Luke 18:23 But when he
heard this he became sad,
for he was very rich.
Luke 18:24 Jesus looking
at him said, "How hard it is
for those who have riches
to enter the kingdom of
God!
Luke 18:25 For it is easier
for a camel to go through
the eye of a needle than for
a rich man to enter the
kingdom of God."
Luke 18:26 Those who
heard it said, "Then who
can be saved?"
Luke 18:27 But he said,
"What is impossible with
men is possible with God."
Luke 18:28 And Peter
said, "Lo, we have left our
homes and followed you."
Luke 18:29 And he said to
them, "Truly, I say to you,
there is no man who has
left house or wife or
brothers or parents or
children, for the sake of the
kingdom of God,
Luke 18:30 who will not
receive manifold more in
this time, and in the age to
come eternal life."

Luke 13:30 And behold,
some are last who will be
first, and some are first
who will be last."
