The Gospel of Mark
Chapter 4

MARK
Chapter 4

1 And again he began to
teach by the sea side. And
there is gathered unto him
a very great multitude, so
that he entered into a boat,
and sat in the sea; and all
the multitude were by the
sea on the land.
2 And he taught them
many things in parables,
and said unto them in his
teaching,
3 Hearken: Behold, the
sower went forth to sow:
4 and it came to pass, as
he sowed, some seed fell
by the way side, and the
birds came and devoured
it.
5 And other fell on the
rocky ground, where it had
not much earth; and
straightway it sprang up,
because it had no deepness
of earth:
6 and when the sun was
risen, it was scorched; and
because it had no root, it
withered away.
7 And other fell among
the thorns, and the thorns
grew up, and choked it,
and it yielded no fruit.
8 And others fell into the
good ground, and yielded
fruit, growing up and
increasing; and brought
forth, thirtyfold, and
sixtyfold, and a
hundredfold.
9 And he said, Who hath
ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And when he was
alone, they that were about
him with the twelve asked
of him the parables.
11 And he said unto them,
Unto you is given the
mystery of the kingdom of
God: but unto them that
are without, all things are
done in parables:
12 that seeing they may
see, and not perceive; and
hearing they may hear, and
not understand; lest haply
they should turn again, and
it should be forgiven them.

13 And he saith unto
them, Know ye not this
parable? and how shall ye
know all the parables?
14 The sower soweth the
word.
15 And these are they by
the way side, where the
word is sown; and when
they have heard,
straightway cometh Satan,
and taketh away the word
which hath been sown in
them.
16 And these in like
manner are they that are
sown upon the rocky
places, who, when they
have heard the word,
straightway receive it with
joy;
17 and they have no root
in themselves, but endure
for a while; then, when
tribulation or persecution
ariseth because of the
word, straightway they
stumble.
18 And others are they
that are sown among the
thorns; these are they that
have heard the word,
19 and the cares of the
world, and the
deceitfulness of riches, and
the lusts of other things
entering in, choke the
word, and it becometh
unfruitful.
20 And those are they that
were sown upon the good
ground; such as hear the
word, and accept it, and
bear fruit, thirtyfold, and
sixtyfold, and a
hundredfold.
21 And he said unto
them, Is the lamp brought
to be put under the bushel,
or under the bed, and not
to be put on the stand?

22 For there is nothing
hid, save that it should be
manifested; neither was
anything made secret, but
that it should come to
light.

23 If any man hath ears to
hear, let him hear.

24 And he said unto them,
Take heed what ye hear:
with what measure ye
mete it shall be measured
unto you; and more shall
be given unto you.

25 For he that hath, to him
shall be given: and he that
hath not, from him shall be
taken away even that
which he hath.

25 For he that hath, to him
shall be given: and he that
hath not, from him shall be
taken away even that
which he hath.
26 And he said, So is the
kingdom of God, as if a
man should cast seed upon
the earth;
27 and should sleep and
rise night and day, and the
seed should spring up and
grow, he knoweth not
how.
28 The earth beareth fruit
of herself; first the blade,
then the ear, then the full
grain in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is
ripe, straightway he
putteth forth the sickle,
because the harvest is
come.
30 And he said, How
shall we liken the kingdom
of God? or in what parable
shall we set it forth?
31 It is like a grain of
mustard seed, which, when
it is sown upon the earth,
though it be less than all
the seeds that are upon the
earth,
32 yet when it is sown,
groweth up, and becometh
greater than all the herbs,
and putteth out great
branches; so that the birds
of the heaven can lodge
under the shadow thereof.
33 And with many such
parables spake he the word
unto them, as they were
able to hear it;
34 and without a parable
spake he not unto them:
but privately to his own
disciples he expounded all
things.

35 And on that day,
when even was come, he
saith unto them, Let us go
over unto the other side.
36 And leaving the
multitude, they take him
with them, even as he was,
in the boat. And other
boats were with him.
37 And there ariseth a
great storm of wind, and
the waves beat into the
boat, insomuch that the
boat was now filling.
38 And he himself was in
the stern, asleep on the
cushion: and they awake
him, and say unto him,
Teacher, carest thou not
that we perish?
39 And he awoke, and
rebuked the wind, and said
unto the sea, Peace, be
still. And the wind ceased,
and there was a great
calm.
40 And he said unto them,
Why are ye fearful? have
ye not yet faith?
41 And they feared
exceedingly, and said one
to another, Who then is
this, that even the wind
and the sea obey him?
MATTHEW

Matthew 13:1 On that
day went Jesus out of the
house, and sat by the sea
side.
Matthew 13:2 And there
were gathered unto him
great multitudes, so that he
entered into a boat, and
sat; and all the multitude
stood on the beach.
Matthew 13:3 And he
spake to them many things
in parables, saying,
Behold, the sower went
forth to sow;
Matthew 13:4 and as he
sowed, some seeds fell by
the way side, and the birds
came and devoured them:
Matthew 13:5 and others
fell upon the rocky places,
where they had not much
earth: and straightway they
sprang up, because they
had no deepness of earth:
Matthew 13:6 and when
the sun was risen, they
were scorched; and
because they had no root,
they withered away.
Matthew 13:7 And others
fell upon the thorns; and
the thorns grew up and
choked them:
Matthew 13:8 and others
fell upon the good ground,
and yielded fruit, some a
hundredfold, some sixty,
some thirty.
Matthew 13:9 He that
hath ears, let him hear.
Matthew 13:10 And the
disciples came, and said
unto him, Why speakest
thou unto them in
parables?
Matthew 13:11 And he
answered and said unto
them, Unto you it is given
to know the mysteries of
the kingdom of heaven,
but to them it is not given.
Matthew 13:12 For
whosoever hath, to him
shall be given, and he shall
have abundance: but
whosoever hath not, from
him shall be taken away
even that which he hath.
Matthew 13:13 Therefore
speak I to them in
parables; because seeing
they see not, and hearing
they hear not, neither do
they understand.
Matthew 13:14 And unto
them is fulfilled the
prophecy of Isaiah, which
saith, By hearing ye shall
hear, and shall in no wise
understand; And seeing ye
shall see, and shall in no
wise perceive:
Matthew 13:15 For this
people's heart is waxed
gross, And their ears are
dull of hearing, And their
eyes they have closed;
Lest haply they should
perceive with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their
heart, And should turn
again, And I should heal
them.

Matthew 13:18 Hear then
ye the parable of the
sower.
Matthew 13:19 When any
one heareth the word of
the kingdom, and
understandeth it not, then
cometh the evil one, and
snatcheth away that which
hath been sown in his
heart. This is he that was
sown by the way side.
Matthew 13:20 And he
that was sown upon the
rocky places, this is he that
heareth the word, and
straightway with joy
receiveth it;
Matthew 13:21 yet hath
he not root in himself, but
endureth for a while; and
when tribulation or
persecution ariseth because
of the word, straightway
he stumbleth.
Matthew 13:22 And he
that was sown among the
thorns, this is he that
heareth the word; and the
care of the world, and the
deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he
becometh unfruitful.
Matthew 13:23 And he
that was sown upon the
good ground, this is he that
heareth the word, and
understandeth it; who
verily beareth fruit, and
bringeth forth, some a
hundredfold, some sixty,
some thirty.

Matthew 5:15 Neither do
men light a lamp, and put
it under the bushel, but on
the stand; and it shineth
unto all that are in the
house.

Matthew 10:26 Fear them
not therefore: for there is
nothing covered, that shall
not be revealed; and hid,
that shall not be known.

Matthew 11:15 He that
hath ears to hear, let him
hear.
Matthew 13:9 He that
hath ears, let him hear.

Matthew 7:2 For with
what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and
with what measure ye
mete, it shall be measured
unto you.

Matthew 13:12 For
whosoever hath, to him
shall be given, and he shall
have abundance: but
whosoever hath not, from
him shall be taken away
even that which he hath.
Matthew 25:29 For unto
every one that hath shall be
given, and he shall have
abundance: but from him
that hath not, even that
which he hath shall be
taken away.

Matthew 13:31 Another
parable set he before them,
saying, The kingdom of
heaven is like unto a grain
of mustard seed, which a
man took, and sowed in
his field:
Matthew 13:32 which
indeed is less than all
seeds; but when it is
grown, it is greater than
the herbs, and becometh a
tree, so that the birds of the
heaven come and lodge in
the branches thereof.

Matthew 13:34 All these
things spake Jesus in
parables unto the
multitudes; and without a
parable spake he nothing
unto them:

Matthew 8:18 Now
when Jesus saw great
multitudes about him, he
gave commandments to
depart unto the other side.

Matthew 8:23 And when
he was entered into a boat,
his disciples followed him.
Matthew 8:24 And
behold, there arose a great
tempest in the sea,
insomuch that the boat was
covered with the waves:
but he was asleep.
Matthew 8:25 And they
came to him, and awoke
him, saying, Save, Lord;
we perish.
Matthew 8:26 And he
saith unto them, Why are
ye fearful, O ye of little
faith? Then he arose, and
rebuked the winds and the
sea; and there was a great
calm.
Matthew 8:27 And the
men marvelled, saying,
What manner of man is
this, that even the winds
and the sea obey him?

LUKE

Luke 8:4 And when a
great multitude came
together, and they of every
city resorted unto him, he
spake by a parable:
Luke 8:5 The sower went
forth to sow his seed: and
as he sowed, some fell by
the way side; and it was
trodden under foot, and the
birds of the heaven
devoured it.
Luke 8:6 And other fell
on the rock; and as soon as
it grew, it withered away,
because it had no
moisture.
Luke 8:7 And other fell
amidst the thorns; and the
thorns grew with it, and
choked it.
Luke 8:8 And other fell
into the good ground, and
grew, and brought forth
fruit a hundredfold. As he
said these things, he cried,
He that hath ears to hear,
let him hear.
Luke 8:9 And his
disciples asked him what
this parable might be.
Luke 8:10 And he said,
Unto you it is given to
know the mysteries of the
kingdom of God: but to
the rest in parables; that
seeing they may not see,
and hearing they may not
understand.

Luke 8:11 Now the
parable is this: The seed is
the word of God.
Luke 8:12 And those by
the way side are they that
have heard; then cometh
the devil, and taketh away
the word from their heart,
that they may not believe
and be saved.
Luke 8:13 And those on
the rock are they who,
when they have heard,
receive the word with joy;
and these have no root,
who for a while believe,
and in time of temptation
fall away.
Luke 8:14 And that which
fell among the thorns,
these are they that have
heard, and as they go on
their way they are choked
with cares and riches and
pleasures of this life, and
bring no fruit to perfection.
Luke 8:15 And that in the
good ground, these are
such as in an honest and
good heart, having heard
the word, hold it fast, and
bring forth fruit with
patience.

Luke 8:16 And no man,
when he hath lighted a
lamp, covereth it with a
vessel, or putteth it under a
bed; but putteth it on a
stand, that they that enter
in may see the light.
Luke 11:33 No man,
when he hath lighted a
lamp, putteth it in a cellar,
neither under the bushel,
but on the stand, that they
which enter in may see the
light.

Luke 8:17 For nothing is
hid, that shall not be made
manifest; nor anything
secret, that shall not be
known and come to light.
Luke 12:2 But there is
nothing covered up, that
shall not be revealed; and
hid, that shall not be
known.

Luke 8:8 And other fell
into the good ground, and
grew, and brought forth
fruit a hundredfold. As he
said these things, he cried,
He that hath ears to hear,
let him hear.

Luke 6:38 give, and it
shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed
down, shaken together,
running over, shall they
give into your bosom. For
with what measure ye
mete it shall be measured
to you again.

Luke 8:18 Take heed
therefore how ye hear: for
whosoever hath, to him
shall be given; and
whosoever hath not, from
him shall be taken away
even that which he thinketh
he hath.
Luke 19:26 I say unto
you, that unto every one
that hath shall be given;
but from him that hath not,
even that which he hath
shall be taken away from
him.

Luke 13:18 He said
therefore, Unto what is the
kingdom of God like? and
whereunto shall I liken it?
Luke 13:19 It is like unto
a grain of mustard seed,
which a man took, and
cast into his own garden;
and it grew, and became a
tree; and the birds of the
heaven lodged in the
branches thereof.

Luke 8:22 Now it came
to pass on one of those
days, that he entered into a
boat, himself and his
disciples; and he said unto
them, Let us go over unto
the other side of the lake:
and they launched forth.
Luke 8:22 Now it came
sailed he fell asleep: and
there came down a storm
of wind on the lake; and
they were filling with
water, and were in
jeopardy.
Luke 8:24 And they came
to him and awoke him,
saying, Master, master, we
perish. And he awoke, and
rebuked the wind and the
raging of the water: and
they ceased, and there was
a calm.
Luke 8:25 And he said
unto them, Where is your
faith? And being afraid
they marvelled, saying one
to another, Who then is
this, that he commandeth
even the winds and the
water, and they obey him?
