The Gospel of Luke
Chapter 6

LUKE
Chapter 6

1 On a sabbath, while he
was going through the
grainfields, his disciples
plucked and ate some
heads of grain, rubbing
them in their hands.
2 But some of the
Pharisees said, "Why are
you doing what is not
lawful to do on the
sabbath?"
3 And Jesus answered,
"Have you not read what
David did when he was
hungry, he and those who
were with him:
4 how he entered the
house of God, and took
and ate the bread of the
Presence, which it is not
lawful for any but the
priests to eat, and also
gave it to those with him?"
5 And he said to them,
"The Son of man is lord of
the sabbath."

6 On another sabbath,
when he entered the
synagogue and taught, a
man was there whose right
hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and the
Pharisees watched him, to
see whether he would heal
on the sabbath, so that they
might find an accusation
against him.
8 But he knew their
thoughts, and he said to
the man who had the
withered hand, "Come and
stand here." And he rose
and stood there.
9 And Jesus said to them,
"I ask you, is it lawful on
the sabbath to do good or
to do harm, to save life or
to destroy it?"
10 And he looked around
on them all, and said to
him, "Stretch out your
hand." And he did so, and
his hand was restored.
11 But they were filled
with fury and discussed
with one another what they
might do to Jesus.

12 In these days he went
out to the mountain to
pray; and all night he
continued in prayer to
God.

13 And when it was day,
he called his disciples, and
chose from them twelve,
whom he named apostles;
14 Simon, whom he
named Peter, and Andrew
his brother, and James and
John, and Philip, and
Bartholomew,
15 and Matthew, and
Thomas, and James the
son of Alphaeus, and
Simon who was called the
Zealot,
16 and Judas the son of
James, and Judas Iscariot,
who became a traitor.

17 And he came down
with them and stood on a
level place, with a great
crowd of his disciples and
a great multitude of people
from all Judea and
Jerusalem and the seacoast
of Tyre and Sidon, who
came to hear him and to be
healed of their diseases;
18 and those who were
troubled with unclean
spirits were cured.

19 And all the crowd
sought to touch him, for
power came forth from
him and healed them all.

20 And he lifted up his
eyes on his disciples, and
said: "Blessed are you
poor, for yours is the
kingdom of God.
21 "Blessed are you that
hunger now, for you shall
be satisfied. "Blessed are
you that weep now, for
you shall laugh.
22 "Blessed are you when
men hate you, and when
they exclude you and
revile you, and cast out
your name as evil, on
account of the Son of man!
23 Rejoice in that day,
and leap for joy, for
behold, your reward is
great in heaven; for so
their fathers did to the
prophets.

24 "But woe to you that
are rich, for you have
received your consolation.
25 "Woe to you that are
full now, for you shall
hunger. "Woe to you that
laugh now, for you shall
mourn and weep.

26 "Woe to you, when all
men speak well of you, for
so their fathers did to the
false prophets.

27 "But I say to you that
hear, Love your enemies,
do good to those who hate
you,
28 bless those who curse
you, pray for those who
abuse you.

29 To him who strikes
you on the cheek, offer the
other also; and from him
who takes away your coat
do not withhold even your
shirt.
30 Give to every one who
begs from you; and of him
who takes away your
goods do not ask them
again.

31 And as you wish that
men would do to you, do
so to them.

32 "If you love those who
love you, what credit is
that to you? For even
sinners love those who
love them.
33 And if you do good to
those who do good to you,
what credit is that to you?
For even sinners do the
same.
34 And if you lend to
those from whom you
hope to receive, what
credit is that to you? Even
sinners lend to sinners, to
receive as much again.
35 But love your enemies,
and do good, and lend,
expecting nothing in
return; and your reward
will be great, and you will
be sons of the Most High;
for he is kind to the
ungrateful and the selfish.
36 Be merciful, even as
your Father is merciful.

37 "Judge not, and you
will not be judged;
condemn not, and you will
not be condemned;
forgive, and you will be
forgiven;
38 give, and it will be
given to you; good
measure, pressed down,
shaken together, running
over, will be put into your
lap. For the measure you
give will be the measure
you get back."
39 He also told them a
parable: "Can a blind man
lead a blind man? Will
they not both fall into a
pit?
40 A disciple is not above
his teacher, but every one
when he is fully taught
will be like his teacher.
41 Why do you see the
speck that is in your
brother's eye, but do not
notice the log that is in
your own eye?
42 Or how can you say to
your brother, 'Brother, let
me take out the speck that
is in your eye,' when you
yourself do not see the log
that is in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take
the log out of your own
eye, and then you will see
clearly to take out the
speck that is in your
brother's eye.

43 "For no good tree
bears bad fruit, nor again
does a bad tree bear good
fruit;
44 for each tree is known
by its own fruit. For figs
are not gathered from
thorns, nor are grapes
picked from a bramble
bush.

45 The good man out of
the good treasure of his
heart produces good, and
the evil man out of his evil
treasure produces evil; for
out of the abundance of the
heart his mouth speaks.

46 "Why do you call me
'Lord, Lord,' and not do
what I tell you?

47 Every one who comes
to me and hears my words
and does them, I will show
you what he is like:
48 he is like a man
building a house, who dug
deep, and laid the
foundation upon rock; and
when a flood arose, the
stream broke against that
house, and could not shake
it, because it had been well
built.
49 But he who hears and
does not do them is like a
man who built a house on
the ground without a
foundation; against which
the stream broke, and
immediately it fell, and the
ruin of that house was
great."

MARK

Mark 2:23 One sabbath he
was going through the
grainfields; and as they
made their way his
disciples began to pluck
heads of grain.
Mark 2:24 And the
Pharisees said to him,
"Look, why are they doing
what is not lawful on the
sabbath?"
Mark 2:25 And he said to
them, "Have you never
read what David did, when
he was in need and was
hungry, he and those who
were with him:
Mark 2:26 how he entered
the house of God, when
Abiathar was high priest,
and ate the bread of the
Presence, which it is not
lawful for any but the
priests to eat, and also
gave it to those who were
with him?"
Mark 2:27 And he said to
them, "The sabbath was
made for man, not man for
the sabbath;
Mark 2:28 so the Son of
man is lord even of the
sabbath."

Mark 3:1 Again he
entered the synagogue, and
a man was there who had a
withered hand.
Mark 3:2 And they
watched him, to see
whether he would heal him
on the sabbath, so that they
might accuse him.
Mark 3:3 And he said to
the man who had the
withered hand, "Come
here."
Mark 3:4 And he said to
them, "Is it lawful on the
sabbath to do good or to
do harm, to save life or to
kill?" But they were silent.
Mark 3:5 And he looked
around at them with anger,
grieved at their hardness of
heart, and said to the man,
"Stretch out your hand."
He stretched it out, and his
hand was restored.
Mark 3:6 The Pharisees
went out, and immediately
held counsel with the
Herodians against him,
how to destroy him.

Mark 3:16 Simon whom
he surnamed Peter;
Mark 3:17 James the son
of Zebedee and John the
brother of James, whom he
surnamed Boanerges, that
is, sons of thunder;
Mark 3:18 Andrew, and
Philip, and Bartholomew,
and Matthew, and
Thomas, and James the
son of Alphaeus, and
Thaddaeus, and Simon the
Cananaean,
Mark 3:19 and Judas
Iscariot, who betrayed
him. Then he went home;

Mark 3:10 for he had
healed many, so that all
who had diseases pressed
upon him to touch him.

MATTHEW

Matthew 12:1 At that
time Jesus went through
the grainfields on the
sabbath; his disciples were
hungry, and they began to
pluck heads of grain and to
eat.
Matthew 12:2 But when
the Pharisees saw it, they
said to him, "Look, your
disciples are doing what is
not lawful to do on the
sabbath."
Matthew 12:3 He said to
them, "Have you not read
what David did, when he
was hungry, and those
who were with him:
Matthew 12:4 how he
entered the house of God
and ate the bread of the
Presence, which it was not
lawful for him to eat nor
for those who were with
him, but only for the
priests?
Matthew 12:5 Or have
you not read in the law
how on the sabbath the
priests in the temple
profane the sabbath, and
are guiltless?
Matthew 12:6 I tell you,
something greater than the
temple is here.
Matthew 12:7 And if you
had known what this
means, 'I desire mercy,
and not sacrifice,' you
would not have
condemned the guiltless.
Matthew 12:8 For the Son
of man is lord of the
sabbath."

Matthew 12:9 And he
went on from there, and
entered their synagogue.
Matthew 12:10 And
behold, there was a man
with a withered hand. And
they asked him, "Is it
lawful to heal on the
sabbath?" so that they
might accuse him.
Matthew 12:11 He said to
them, "What man of you,
if he has one sheep and it
falls into a pit on the
sabbath, will not lay hold
of it and lift it out?
Matthew 12:12 Of how
much more value is a man
than a sheep! So it is
lawful to do good on the
sabbath."
Matthew 12:13 Then he
said to the man, "Stretch
out your hand." And the
man stretched it out, and it
was restored, whole like
the other.
Matthew 12:14 But the
Pharisees went out and
took counsel against him,
how to destroy him.

Matthew 10:2 The names
of the twelve apostles are
these: first, Simon, who is
called Peter, and Andrew
his brother; James the son
of Zebedee, and John his
brother;
Matthew 10:3 Philip and
Bartholomew; Thomas and
Matthew 10:3 Philip and
James the son of
Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
Matthew 10:4 Simon the
Cananaean, and Judas
Iscariot, who betrayed
him.

Matthew 14:36 and
besought him that they
might only touch the fringe
of his garment; and as
many as touched it were
made well.

Matthew 5:3 "Blessed
are the poor in spirit, for
theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are
those who mourn, for they
shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are
the meek, for they shall
inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are
those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness, for
they shall be satisfied.
Matthew 5:7 "Blessed are
the merciful, for they shall
obtain mercy.
Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they
shall see God.
Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are
the peacemakers, for they
shall be called sons of
God.
Matthew 5:10 "Blessed
are those who are
persecuted for
righteousness' sake, for
theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Matthew 5:11 "Blessed
are you when men revile
you and persecute you and
utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my
account.
Matthew 5:12 Rejoice and
be glad, for your reward is
great in heaven, for so men
persecuted the prophets
who were before you.

Matthew 5:44 But I say to
you, Love your enemies
and pray for those who
persecute you,

Matthew 5:39 But I say to
you, Do not resist one who
is evil. But if any one
strikes you on the right
cheek, turn to him the
other also;
Matthew 5:40 and if any
one would sue you and
take your coat, let him
have your cloak as well;
Matthew 5:41 and if any
one forces you to go one
mile, go with him two
miles.
Matthew 5:42 Give to him
who begs from you, and
do not refuse him who
would borrow from you.

Matthew 7:12 So
whatever you wish that
men would do to you, do
so to them; for this is the
law and the prophets.

Matthew 5:46 For if you
love those who love you,
what reward have you? Do
not even the tax collectors
do the same?

Matthew 7:1 "Judge not,
that you be not judged.
Matthew 7:2 For with the
judgment you pronounce
you will be judged, and
the measure you give will
be the measure you get.
Matthew 7:3 Why do you
see the speck that is in
your brother's eye, but do
not notice the log that is in
your own eye?
Matthew 7:4 Or how can
you say to your brother,
'Let me take the speck out
of your eye,' when there is
the log in your own eye?
Matthew 7:5 You
hypocrite, first take the log
out of your own eye, and
then you will see clearly to
take the speck out of your
brother's eye.

Matthew 7:16 You will
know them by their fruits.
Are grapes gathered from
thorns, or figs from
thistles?
Matthew 7:18 A sound
tree cannot bear evil fruit,
nor can a bad tree bear
good fruit.
Matthew 7:20 Thus you
will know them by their
fruits.

Matthew 12:35 The good
man out of his good
treasure brings forth good,
and the evil man out of his
evil treasure brings forth
evil.

Matthew 7:24 "Every one
then who hears these
words of mine and does
them will be like a wise
man who built his house
upon the rock;
Matthew 7:25 and the rain
fell, and the floods came,
and the winds blew and
beat upon that house, but it
did not fall, because it had
been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:26 And every
one who hears these words
of mine and does not do
them will be like a foolish
man who built his house
upon the sand;
Matthew 7:27 and the rain
fell, and the floods came,
and the winds blew and
beat against that house,
and it fell; and great was
the fall of it."
