The Gospel of Luke
Chapter 5

LUKE
Chapter 5

1 While the people
pressed upon him to hear
the word of God, he was
standing by the lake of
Gennesaret.
2 And he saw two boats
by the lake; but the
fishermen had gone out of
them and were washing
their nets.
3 Getting into one of the
boats, which was Simon's,
he asked him to put out a
little from the land. And he
sat down and taught the
people from the boat.
4 And when he had
ceased speaking, he said to
Simon, "Put out into the
deep and let down your
nets for a catch."
5 And Simon answered,
"Master, we toiled all
night and took nothing!
But at your word I will let
down the nets."
6 And when they had
done this, they enclosed a
great shoal of fish; and as
their nets were breaking,
7 they beckoned to their
partners in the other boat
to come and help them.
And they came and filled
both the boats, so that they
began to sink.
8 But when Simon Peter
saw it, he fell down at
Jesus' knees, saying,
"Depart from me, for I am
a sinful man, O Lord."
9 For he was astonished,
and all that were with him,
at the catch of fish which
they had taken;
10 and so also were
James and John, sons of
Zebedee, who were
partners with Simon. And
Jesus said to Simon, "Do
not be afraid; henceforth
you will be catching men."
11 And when they had
brought their boats to land,
they left everything and
followed him.

12 While he was in one
of the cities, there came a
man full of leprosy; and
when he saw Jesus, he fell
on his face and besought
him, "Lord, if you will,
you can make me clean."
13 And he stretched out
his hand, and touched him,
saying, "I will; be clean."
And immediately the
leprosy left him.
14 And he charged him to
tell no one; but "go and
show yourself to the priest,
and make an offering for
your cleansing, as Moses
commanded, for a proof to
the people."

15 But so much the more
the report went abroad
concerning him; and great
multitudes gathered to hear
and to be healed of their
infirmities.

16 But he withdrew to the
wilderness and prayed.

17 On one of those days,
as he was teaching, there
were Pharisees and
teachers of the law sitting
by, who had come from
every village of Galilee
and Judea and from
Jerusalem; and the power
of the Lord was with him
to heal.

18 And behold, men were
bringing on a bed a man
who was paralyzed, and
they sought to bring him in
and lay him before Jesus;
19 but finding no way to
bring him in, because of
the crowd, they went up
on the roof and let him
down with his bed through
the tiles into the midst
before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their
faith he said, "Man, your
sins are forgiven you."
21 And the scribes and the
Pharisees began to
question, saying, "Who is
this that speaks
blasphemies? Who can
forgive sins but God
only?"
22 When Jesus perceived
their questionings, he
answered them, "Why do
you question in your
hearts?
23 Which is easier, to say,
'Your sins are forgiven
you,' or to say, 'Rise and
walk'?
24 But that you may
know that the Son of man
has authority on earth to
forgive sins" he said to
the man who was
paralyzed "I say to you,
rise, take up your bed and
go home."
25 And immediately he
rose before them, and took
up that on which he lay,
and went home, glorifying
God.
26 And amazement seized
them all, and they glorified
God and were filled with
awe, saying, "We have
seen strange things today."

27 After this he went
out, and saw a tax
collector, named Levi,
sitting at the tax office;
and he said to him,
"Follow me."
28 And he left everything,
and rose and followed
him.
29 And Levi made him a
great feast in his house;
and there was a large
company of tax collectors
and others sitting at table
with them.
30 And the Pharisees and
their scribes murmured
against his disciples,
saying, "Why do you eat
and drink with tax
collectors and sinners?"
31 And Jesus answered
them, "Those who are well
have no need of a
physician, but those who
are sick;
32 I have not come to call
the righteous, but sinners
to repentance."
33 And they said to him,
"The disciples of John fast
often and offer prayers,
and so do the disciples of
the Pharisees, but yours
eat and drink."
34 And Jesus said to
them, "Can you make
wedding guests fast while
the bridegroom is with
them?
35 The days will come,
when the bridegroom is
taken away from them,
and then they will fast in
those days."
36 He told them a parable
also: "No one tears a piece
from a new garment and
puts it upon an old
garment; if he does, he
will tear the new, and the
piece from the new will
not match the old.
37 And no one puts new
wine into old wineskins; if
he does, the new wine will
burst the skins and it will
be spilled, and the skins
will be destroyed.
38 But new wine must be
put into fresh wineskins.
39 And no one after
drinking old wine desires
new; for he says, 'The old
is good.'"

MARK

Mark 1:16 And passing
along by the Sea of
Galilee, he saw Simon and
Andrew the brother of
Simon casting a net in the
sea; for they were
fishermen.
Mark 1:17 And Jesus said
to them, "Follow me and I
will make you become
fishers of men."
Mark 1:18 And
immediately they left their
nets and followed him.
Mark 1:19 And going on
a little farther, he saw
James the son of Zebedee
and John his brother, who
were in their boat mending
the nets.
Mark 1:20 And
immediately he called
them; and they left their
father Zebedee in the boat
with the hired servants,
and followed him.

Mark 1:40 And a leper
came to him beseeching
him, and kneeling said to
him, "If you will, you can
make me clean."
Mark 1:41 Moved with
pity, he stretched out his
hand and touched him, and
said to him, "I will; be
clean."
Mark 1:42 And
immediately the leprosy
left him, and he was made
clean.
Mark 1:43 And he sternly
charged him, and sent him
away at once,
Mark 1:44 and said to
him, "See that you say
nothing to any one; but go,
show yourself to the priest,
and offer for your
cleansing what Moses
commanded, for a proof to
the people."

Mark 1:35 And in the
morning, a great while
before day, he rose and
went out to a lonely place,
and there he prayed.

Mark 2:3 And they came,
bringing to him a paralytic
carried by four men.
Mark 2:4 And when they
could not get near him
because of the crowd, they
removed the roof above
him; and when they had
made an opening, they let
down the pallet on which
the paralytic lay.
Mark 2:5 And when Jesus
saw their faith, he said to
the paralytic, "My son,
your sins are forgiven."
Mark 2:6 Now some of
the scribes were sitting
there, questioning in their
hearts,
Mark 2:7 "Why does this
man speak thus? It is
blasphemy! Who can
forgive sins but God
alone?"
Mark 2:8 And
immediately Jesus,
perceiving in his spirit that
they thus questioned
within themselves, said to
them, "Why do you
question thus in your
hearts?
Mark 2:9 Which is easier,
to say to the paralytic,
'Your sins are forgiven,'
or to say, 'Rise, take up
your pallet and walk'?
Mark 2:10 But that you
may know that the Son of
man has authority on earth
to forgive sins" he said
to the paralytic
Mark 2:11 "I say to you,
rise, take up your pallet
and go home."
Mark 2:12 And he rose,
and immediately took up
the pallet and went out
before them all; so that
they were all amazed and
glorified God, saying, "We
never saw anything like
this!"

Mark 2:14 And as he
passed on, he saw Levi the
son of Alphaeus sitting at
the tax office, and he said
to him, "Follow me." And
he rose and followed him.
Mark 2:15 And as he sat
at table in his house, many
tax collectors and sinners
were sitting with Jesus and
his disciples; for there
were many who followed
him.
Mark 2:16 And the
scribes of the Pharisees,
when they saw that he was
eating with sinners and tax
collectors, said to his
disciples, "Why does he
eat with tax collectors and
sinners?"
Mark 2:17 And when
Jesus heard it, he said to
them, "Those who are well
have no need of a
physician, but those who
are sick; I came not to call
the righteous, but sinners."
Mark 2:18 Now John's
disciples and the Pharisees
were fasting; and people
came and said to him,
"Why do John's disciples
and the disciples of the
Pharisees fast, but your
disciples do not fast?"
Mark 2:19 And Jesus said
to them, "Can the wedding
guests fast while the
bridegroom is with them?
As long as they have the
bridegroom with them,
they cannot fast.
Mark 2:20 The days will
come, when the
bridegroom is taken away
from them, and then they
will fast in that day.
Mark 2:21 No one sews a
piece of unshrunk cloth on
an old garment; if he does,
the patch tears away from
it, the new from the old,
and a worse tear is made.
Mark 2:22 And no one
puts new wine into old
wineskins; if he does, the
wine will burst the skins,
and the wine is lost, and so
are the skins; but new wine
is for fresh skins."

MATTHEW

Matthew 4:18 As he
walked by the Sea of
Galilee, he saw two
brothers, Simon who is
called Peter and Andrew
his brother, casting a net
into the sea; for they were
fishermen.
Matthew 4:19 And he said
to them, "Follow me, and I
will make you fishers of
men."
Matthew 4:20
Immediately they left their
nets and followed him.
Matthew 4:21 And going
on from there he saw two
other brothers, James the
son of Zebedee and John
his brother, in the boat
with Zebedee their father,
mending their nets, and he
called them.
Matthew 4:22
Immediately they left the
boat and their father, and
followed him.

Matthew 8:2 and behold,
a leper came to him and
knelt before him, saying,
"Lord, if you will, you can
make me clean."
Matthew 8:3 And he
stretched out his hand and
touched him, saying, "I
will; be clean." And
immediately his leprosy
was cleansed.
Matthew 8:4 And Jesus
said to him, "See that you
say nothing to any one; but
go, show yourself to the
priest, and offer the gift
that Moses commanded,
for a proof to the people."

Matthew 9:26 And the
report of this went through
all that district.

Matthew 14:23 And after
he had dismissed the
crowds, he went up on the
mountain by himself to
pray. When evening came,
he was there alone,

Matthew 9:2 And behold,
they brought to him a
paralytic, lying on his bed;
and when Jesus saw their
faith he said to the
paralytic, "Take heart, my
son; your sins are
forgiven."
Matthew 9:3 And behold,
some of the scribes said to
themselves, "This man is
blaspheming."
Matthew 9:4 But Jesus,
knowing their thoughts,
said, "Why do you think
evil in your hearts?
Matthew 9:5 For which is
easier, to say, 'Your sins
are forgiven,' or to say,
'Rise and walk'?
Matthew 9:6 But that you
may know that the Son of
man has authority on earth
to forgive sins" he then
said to the
paralytic "Rise, take up
your bed and go home."
Matthew 9:7 And he rose
and went home.
Matthew 9:8 When the
crowds saw it, they were
afraid, and they glorified
God, who had given such
authority to men.

Matthew 9:9 As Jesus
passed on from there, he
saw a man called Matthew
sitting at the tax office;
and he said to him,
"Follow me." And he rose
and followed him.
Matthew 9:10 And as he
sat at table in the house,
behold, many tax
collectors and sinners
came and sat down with
Jesus and his disciples.
Matthew 9:11 And when
the Pharisees saw this,
they said to his disciples,
"Why does your teacher
eat with tax collectors and
sinners?"
Matthew 9:12 But when
he heard it, he said, "Those
who are well have no need
of a physician, but those
who are sick.
Matthew 9:13 Go and
learn what this means, 'I
desire mercy, and not
sacrifice.' For I came not
to call the righteous, but
sinners."
Matthew 9:14 Then the
disciples of John came to
him, saying, "Why do we
and the Pharisees fast, but
your disciples do not
fast?"
Matthew 9:15 And Jesus
said to them, "Can the
wedding guests mourn as
long as the bridegroom is
with them? The days will
come, when the
bridegroom is taken away
from them, and then they
will fast.
Matthew 9:16 And no one
puts a piece of unshrunk
cloth on an old garment,
for the patch tears away
from the garment, and a
worse tear is made.
Matthew 9:17 Neither is
new wine put into old
wineskins; if it is, the skins
burst, and the wine is
spilled, and the skins are
destroyed; but new wine is
put into fresh wineskins,
and so both are preserved."
