Unzip Properties

You can control the way the program behaves when unzipping a file, using the Unzip properties. If you want to create the folders on your disk as they exist inside the Zip file, check the appropriate box. If you select to 'replace files with the same name' the program will automatically overwrite files on your hard drive if they have the same name as the file in the zip file and are found in the folder you have chosen to use to unzip the zip file. If you leave the replace box unchecked the program will alert you before it overwrites a file, and you can choose to overwrite or choose to skip the file. If you select 'Unzip only newer files' then the file will only be taken out of the zip file if it is newer than the copy you have on your disk, or if it does not yet exist in the folder you have selected for the unzip operation. Selecting the last option will only unzip newer versions of files that already exist in the folder you selected for the unzip operation.

The Easy Zip file program also opens Gzipped Files (files ending with the letters 'GZ') and Tar files (ending with the letters TAR). A GZ file can only contain one single file, and often this single file is a 'TAR BALL' (a tar file contains many files and the format was originally invented for UNIX computers, but is now common on PCs as well). If you want the single TAR file, leave the first check box unchecked, and if you want not the tar file itself, but all the files within TAR ball, check the first box. The third option passes a 'short DOS' file name when opening a GZ file, for technical reasons. If for some reason your version of windows does not support DOS filenames, you can try unchecking this box (otherwise, to avoid potential problems with the GZ routines, leave this box checked).
