Batch Create Zipped Files Help

The image above shows the new interface on the Create New Zip File page, which now includes a Batch create function, which is accessed by pressing the Batch button. (Below this is a text box which can be used to enter a tag, a short message which can help to locate and identify compressed files.)

When the Batch button is pressed the Batch Creation window appears. Step one in the process is pressing the Filename button, and then selecting the type of compressed file (Zip, Tar.Gz, Tar or GZ) and giving the compressed file a name and choosing a folder where it will be saved. A tag can be added to Zip or GZ files by using the tag button. The files and folders you wish to include in the File are added by using the Add Files and Add Folder buttons. When you have added all the files and folders to the zip file, pressing the finish button ends the record. You can then press the filename button to start the process anew. In the image above you can see a Zip file, the listing of which was finished, followed by a finished Tar GZ file, followed by Tar GZ file in progress.
When you have entered the data for all the zipped files you wish to batch process, you can commence the batch creation process by pressing the Zip button. The program will then go into automatic mode, creating all the files in the manner you specified on the batch processing list You can clear the screen and start over by pressing the Clear button. You can remove an entire zip file listing from the batch list, by clicking any item on the list and pressing the Remove button.
Batch processing is most useful when you have large files to process, one after another, and do not wish to be tied down to the computer during the creation process. As well, compressing files uses all the power of your CPU which makes multitasking difficult (you attempt to keep busy on the computer while the zip operation is going on in the background, but you find your computer is sluggish and unresponsive because the compression operation is consuming all the CPU time.
If you need to make very large files, it is not a good idea to make large zip files. The zip format is very poor when it comes to processing very large files, with very many files (the process takes many hours to complete, and is also extremely slow when the time comes to extract the files out of the Zipped archive). It is much faster, both in the creation and in the later extraction of files, to create a Gzipped Tar ball (Tar GZ file). A GZ file can only contain one single file, and typically this one file will be what is called a 'TAR ball' (one single file that contains numerous files, just like a typical zip file, with the difference being that a TAR ball is not compressed, and for this reason it is normally GZipped to reduce the size). If you are planning to make a large Gzipped Tar Ball, keep in mind that you will need disk space for the temporary TAR ball, which will be the same size as the files you include (since they will not be compressed) and you will also need disk space for the final GZipped file (which will typically be half the size of the files you are including, since they will be compressed). For this reason you should install Easy Zip File on a drive with the maximum amount of free space available, if you are planning a creating very large gzipped TAR balls.
