The cruel injustice of the new state religion of unbridled pure capitalism is its indictment. The ideology of that prayer of Jabez has already failed to produce the compassion required, and what is required are structural reforms.
Over the past few decades we have seen the rise of the ideology of pure, unregulated, unbridled capitalism as almost some kind of state religion. I suppose the idealistic viewpoint of some of those who hold to this new religion could be summarized in that Prayer of Jabez making the rounds - make me rich and the cause of no harm, but rather a blessing. (Get rich, and then make donations, to summarize the economic model of the religious right. This form of religion is perfectly in synch with the ideology of the new state religion, the ‘faith' practiced by those in the larger surrounding culture.)
To critique this new religion, so popular in both the religious right and the culture at large, a person only needs to take a quick look at that starved baby (feed a cow) problem (the single most important moral issue of our time, and the real root source which is driving so much environmental devastation and creating so much violence on the planet. For this obvious reason, any attempt to address these other issues, can be seen as diversionary and even, if you want to be really cynical about the kind of propagandas that fly around this place, you could see even go so far to say that certain attempts to deal with other issues (by applying those band-aids) could be deliberately deceptive).
The odious cruelty of the excesses of pure capitalism are responsible for so much needless human suffering on this planet. These policies are also responsible for the bleak, depressing, greyness that hangs over this planet. They destroy our children, who leave wonderland only to look out at starvation and cruelty and death and apathy and greed and then suffer as something precious within them is destroyed by this place. (Teen drug use, teen suicide, all caused by ruthless capitalism and human cruelty expressed in such intransigent and worthless systems as the one I have described on this site. Solve the cow problem. All the other attempts to solve these problems, with band=aids, or some of the Prayer of Jabez politics being planned by the Bush Administration and the religious right - make donations - all these diversions are doomed to fail, as they always fail, because they don't even go near the root cause of the suffering of our planet, which is the cause of the moral destruction of our kids. You see, its like this. You can't be a ruthless unconcerned prick when it comes to political decisions, something our kids will see in both politicians and religious leaders and business leaders, and anyone else who has the power, and is supposed to be someone, and, after this display of blatant hypocrisy and the cruelest of immorality, it would be far fetched to expect to get anywhere with those band-aids. Religion, the solution peddled by the religious right, is once again a diversionary dodge, and not the real solution. I use the example of drug use (purpose - escape the dreary cruelty of this planet) or teen suicide (ditto) to illustrate what I mean when I say that there is only one problem on this planet that really needs to be solved, and, fortunately, which can be solved, if only the will was present. It is not, and that, by the way, is only more depressing for those kids, the cause of more poisoning of the atmosphere of this planet, and the cause of hopeless despair, something no one enjoys being served on a plate either by so called religious leaders, who should be the ones to brings some moral checks and balances into this situation, and into our political leaders.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that anyone could be stupid enough to believe in our new state religion of unbridled capitalism, when it is so plain and easy to see the cruel excesses of this system, which is in the process of destroying the planet (no big surprise there). You see, the thing with me is that I am just not prepared to live another day in a world as ruthlessly wicked as this one turns out to be. I am tired of band-aid solutions to world problems, and I am really sick and tired of political diversions, and half baked flap jacks that have never been turned, but which are served up on a plate nevertheless. One of the biggest of those uncooked cakes is that hoary religion of unbridled capitalism that is so in vogue today.
Now people weren't to fond of collective farms and world communism as we saw in our century. Nevertheless, like many people, when confronted with the ruthless cruelty of this capitalist religion, practiced in its purest form only by barbarians I would suppose, naturally, being the kind of soft hearted person who likes people, my sympathies are more with that world communism idea, because at least people would eat, and that would be an improvement. You see, under world capitalism, everything that exists is a commodity with a price, and under this disgusting barbarian religion of unbridled capitalism, even life itself is a commodity, and life is bought and sold on this planet. It truly is a painfully disgusting and wickedly cruel thing to see, and the planet, and its ongoing destruction is the indictment of this new form of idolatry. The truth also indicts unbridled world capitalism every day, which is why you should be concerned about issues such as concentration in the media, advertiser driven news coverage, and other such things.
Simple common sense and ordinary decency tell us that the current religion of pure capitalism, the faith most likely practiced by the new American administration, is morally corrupt, and to someone like me, who loves both God and human beings, the disgusting goings on, the starving, the violence, and the destruction of the planet are just things I am not willing to accept, and a pretty sure indication that no one has found the ‘true faith', as it suggested is true about that religion of unbridled capitalism.
There should be something sacred in the world, and life should be the one thing you don't buy and sell, and that has no price tag. Food for people, not for profit. Structural reforms are necessary to bring some humanity to this planet. Something is going to have to change, and over the long run, I am sure that such a pull back from unbridled capitalism would actually prove to have been a more profitable move, given that the planet was not being destroyed, and people were a little less neurotic, a little suicidal, using a little less dope, a little happier to be alive on this planet when they open their eyes in the morning. (Our children would love it.)
As for the policies of that new Bush Administration, and the way the religious right is lining up with Bush, all I can say is more that prayer of Jabez stuff in both religion and politics is obviously not the correct solution to the problem. You see we have had lots of time to wait for that Jabez thing to actually work, you know, giving donations and saving the world that way, rather than actually dealing with the problems. I don't think much of that Prayer of Jabez style ‘faith based' welfare system, and I don't think much of ‘say no to drug campaigns' or a lot of the other things they do - band-aids, and really, when you look it, that Prayer of Jabez is just a way to encourage exactly the kind of credulous gullibility required to believe that the answer to our problems lies in encouraging both unbridled capitalism and then donations. To sum up, these policies are just a sop and a distraction, and the purpose is to draw attention away from what is already obvious as the failure of the religion of unbridled capitalism, and that ideology of the Prayer of Jabez that goes with it, that has kept the planet suffering, and skillfully kept at bay the drive for structural reforms on this planet.
