Sharon delighted in the
best propaganda break for Israel
in years
After comparing Arafat to Bin Laden (an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fury in the United States and make some hay while the sun is darkened) Sharon then cancelled the peace talks that had been in the planning stages for weeks before the WTC attack. As well Israel has been using the propaganda opportunity to begin assualts on the Palestinians invading Jenin, Jericho, and now Gaza with helicopter gunships. We can expect in the days ahead intense military activity against the Palestinians, while Bush is trying to restrain Sharon in the hopes of bringing Arab nations into a 'coalition'. This will be difficult enough as it is, since the feelings of Arab leaders and the feelings on the street are two different things, and with Sharon's outburst of belligerence, Arab feelins with be further inflamed. Let us just say that Sharon is not particularly bright, having learned only to use the blunt instrument of the huge club, the very reason the Israeli people elected the the man from Sabra and Shatilla in the first place (is Gaza burning? Are their blood and tears in Kibia? Is there darkness and terror in Sabra and Shatilla?)
In time the bankruptcy of Sharon and his policies will become obvious. As Peres pointed out, killing Arafat will only leave Israel dealing with someone else. Only the full scale 'Sabra and Shatilla' in the Gaza and the West Bank, full scale genocidal slaughter will ever bring Sharon's policies any success in the long term, and as for constant oppression and the complete ruin of the Palestinian economy over the course of the last year only guarantees more suicide bombers in shopping malls and, of course, further state violence from Sharon, the supposed 'savior' of Israel.If Sharon wants to avoid having his policies exposed as bankrupt, it will be required that he loosen his restraint and his let his almost genocidal hostility and racism be fully vented in a full scale holocaust against the Palestinian people (instead of giving them just a little Torah, a little Torah everyday, that's the way, Sharon should become a truly sacred Jew and follower of Moses and 'exterminate the nations you are dispossessing and make your home in their country' (as Moses adamantly insisted, and as Sharon, the new Moses, seems to want to do).
