More than two million ask for food aid

All Africa news wire
An estimated 2.5 million Zimbabweans in four southernprovinces have registered with the government for foodaid, the 'Financial Gazette' reported on Thursday. Thefigure represents about one-fifth of the nation's 12.5million people ... Zimbabweansconsume between 1.8 million and two million mt ofmaize per year, but government officials haveestimated that only 1.4 million mt would be harvestedthis year, while the nation's reserves were nearlyempty.

Moi of Kenya joined in the Western propoganda about 'subversive NGOs' a few weeks ago (read leftist NGOs) and the propaganda is continuing as the war on terror seems ready to become a war on dissent and a war on movements to emancipate peasants from these dictators ... if they are going to get rid of those NGOs there will never be a better time in history than during this great window of opportunity presented by this 'war on terrorism'

Fake NGOs Masquarade in Tonkolili

All Africa news wire
UNPP member of parliament Hon. Hassan Kanu hascalled on government to monitor and control theactivities of certain non-governmental organisationsmasquerading the Tonkolili District under the pretext ofassisting the rural poor.

The UN has a list of 33 countries facing famine this year, and while pictures of starving and emaciated human beings probably aren't good for ratings, it is good for morals, and it might also bring some clarity to this whole debate about 'what is moral' ... In a world with a glut of food and at the same time desperate people battling each other for food, it seems the issue is relevant ... at present farmers are going bankrupt at a record rate and currently 70 per cent the farms are now corporate or mega-farms and with the price of commidities below the price of production it seems that we are ready for the 'return of feudalism' before this is all over... meanwhile with famine breaking out in 33 countries we will have even more of that 'terrorism' to battle in the days ahead...

China, the new 'ally' in the 'war against terror' (everyone repeat after me, two legs are better than four, two legs are better than four' anyone remember Orwell's animal house ...)

"I spent 33 years in the Marines. Most of my time being a high-classc muscle man for Big business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism.I helped make Mexico safe for oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenue in. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras "right" for American fruit companies in 1903. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints." -Marine Corps General Smedley D. Butler New York Times August 21, 1931 Reprinted in Morrow Book of Quotations in American History

U.S. sending 'anti-terror team' to Manila

(Note a team has also been sent to Guatemala, and India has also requested US military forces to help out in its battle with Pakistani backed militants in Kashmir)
MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- The Philippine government says the United States is sending a "sizeable" military delegation to Manila as part of efforts to crack down on militant groups linked to terrorist suspect Osama bin Laden. Philippine National Security Adviser Roilo Golez said the U.S. delegation, numbering more than a dozen, will provide training and equipment to Philippine troops in their operations against the Abu Sayyaf group. Golez said the task of the American troops shows "heightened cooperation between the Philippines and the United States".

Protesters 'seal' American fast-food chains in Indonesia IRNA
Kuala Lumpur, Oct 11, IRNA -- Hundreds of students from various universities in Yogyakarta, about 600 km east of Indonesia's capital of Jakarta had two separate rallies on Wednesday to protest the U.S.-led attack on Afghanistan, burning an effigy of U.S. President George W. Bush and "sealing" popular American fast-food restaurants, the Jakarta Post reported on Thursday One group of protesters, claiming to be members of Muhammadiyah Students Association (IMM) and the Association of Islamic Students (HMI), burned an effigy of U.S. President George W. Bush, while rallying at the provincial legislative council ... They carried banners that read, "Bring Bush to the International Court", "Islam can't tolerate U.S. arrogance", "Freeze U.S. assets in Indonesia" and "Boycott U.S. products." Upon reaching Tugu intersection, the students stopped in front of a Pizza Hut restaurant and held a street theater performance, depicting hungry Afghans ... After holding speeches, the protesters symbolically sealed the front door of Pizza Hut with dozens of posters. Some posters read, "This restaurant is sealed", "Eating here means killing the poor Afghans", "This restaurant will be liquidated", "Freeze and boycott U.S. investments here (Indonesia)." Dozens of Pizza Hut customers, nevertheless, seemed to be unperturbed by the demonstration and continued with their meal. From Pizza Hut, the protesters headed south to Jl. Malioboro. where McDonalds restaurant is located. Some 10 protesters "sealed" McDonalds, again by pasting posters on McDonald's windows. Other protesters shouted," Boycott American products!"

Jewish terrorists open fire on Palestinian olive harvesters

IRNA
Al-Khalil, Oct. 11, IRNA -- Paramilitary Jewish settlers, many of them immigrants from the US, on Thursday opened fire on Palestinian olive harvesters in several localities in the northern West Bank, injuring several people and terrorizing the poor peasants. The English-speaking terrorists also reportedly chased other Palestinians, telling them that "God gave us this land and you should leave or you will be killed." Palestinian sources in Nablus said some of the bearded settlers set fire on Palestinian olive orchards in full view of Israeli occupation soldiers. Last year this time, Jewish settlers committed some of the most gruesome crimes against Palestinian olive harvesters. For example, two Jewish settlers armed with automatic rifles shot and killed Farid Nasasra at the village of Beit Furik, near Nablus, in front of his wife and kids. All in all, more than 50 Palestinian civilians, like Nasasra, were murdered by Jewish settlers in one year. The victims include people as young as two-month old babies and elderly peasants aged more than 80 years. According to the Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem, none of the perpetrators has been prosecuted for the murders.
