Texas storm greets Bush, Putin (who are meeting at the Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas) Over the last two days, a deluge has immersed parts of Texas, including the Bush ranch, with over 10 inches of rain. The storm appears to actually be centered over the Bush ranch. According to the Weather Channel Texas has been hit with "thunderstorms that packed tornadoes, high winds and flooding rains," and the forecast for Crawford on Wunderground reads, "Hourly rainfall rates will average around 1/2 inch...but some areas will experience hourly rates near one and a half inches. The area of rain is moving north around 15 mph. Flooding of low lying areas is possible with the heavier storms." The first picture is the precipitation, just about the only place in the states where it is raining today, and the second is the map of Texas flood warnings. The darker the Green the more severe the flood warning on the map, and the red dots are tornadoe warnings. In its latest report, the Weather Channel states that "Flooding from record rainfall claimed three lives as high winds and heavy rain battered Central Texas. ... rainfall records were set ... as rains were expected to continue Friday across the heavily saturated middle part of the state ... Storms spawned a number of tornadoes ... high winds tore off parts of roofs ... "The ground is saturated and more rain is expected today. We are still under a flash flood warning ... The creeks are continuing to rise and flooding continues to be very possible." ... No immediate reprieve was expected in much of the state ... severe thunderstorms blew out windows, damaged homes and toppled trees." Meanwhile the Weather Channel reports that Kentucky has issued a health warning due to the smoke from raging wild fires, wildfires in Tennessee continue to burn as no rain is in the forecast, Alabama has banned all burning to prevent anymore wildfires, and along the wild fire plagued Eastern states the situation, the Weather Channel reports as "drought. Brush fires, parched reservoirs and voluntary water restrictions are a few of the consequences. And weather forecasters see no immediate end to a dry spell that began in August ... In Virginia, more than 100 National Guard troops have been deployed to help battle a number of small wild fires, and state officials fear that it could get worse with hunting season kicking into gear and no rain in the forecast ... Maryland issued a statewide ban on outdoor burning and called on residents in the central and western regions to voluntarily curtail water use ... In Georgia, some farmers have delayed planting ... In rural Maine, shallow wells are running dry. In three New York City-owned reservoirs, combined storage was about 91 million gallons -- 58 billion gallons below normal and only 33 percent of capacity ...
