There are serious weaknesses in a prevention plan that relies exclusively on provision of condoms ..." A few thoughts of my own on some advertising I have seen this month... I recently watched a commercial stating that genetically modified foods will 'one day end world hunger.' Killing a few cows, eating a 1/8 pounder (instead of a 1/4 pounder) would do the job a lot quicker (see the 'Starved baby counter' on my home page). When it comes time to pay farmers for their crops we are told that 'due to the huge surplus of food, and the laws of supply and demand, you must be paid a very low price for your food.' As a result multinationals and large farming interests are increasing their ownership of farm lands as farmers go bankrupt. On the other hand, when it is time to feed the starved babies we are told to lament the 'global world wide food shortage' and hopefully genetically modified foods might 'someday' solve the 'crisis'. This really is a fine example of 'polluting our minds' with whatever falsehood seems to be required at the moment (never mind the conflicting version of the truth served up as the ocassion demands...)
