On June 14th, 2002, a 4.4 quake shook the area around Yucca Mountain, the proposed dump site for American nuclear waste. The proposal to make Yucca Mountain a tomb for nuclear waste (some of which will remain toxic for around a hundred thousand years) is before the U.S. Senate awaiting approval.
