BBC: Israel rejects U.N. observers, but considers U.S. CIA observers ...Given the historic support of the U.S. for Israel (in the context of the cold war and U.S. interests in the oil rich gulf) and given the fact that both the U.S. and Israel ignore U.N. resolutions on the middle east situation, sending only U.S. observers would be akin to sending no one at all, which might explain why Israel rejects U.N. observers and is willing to consider only U.S. government 'observers'... A 'face saving' propaganda move no doubt (Israel is 'being observed', but not by anyone who is likely to be overcritical, or take the 'peace keeping' role to seriously for the comfort of both the right wing Israeli state, and the right wing religious extremists (and their policy, taken from the Torah, of 'Guns and Moses' - a truly apt summary description of this ideology if there ever was one.) In a bit of role reversal, rather than being the helpless victim, Israel becomes the violent oppressor, and so we see Israel play Goliath to the Palestinian David (or so it would seem).... Israel's assasination policy - in recent weeks Israel, in their new role as Goliath, has attacked automobiles and buildings occupied by certain Palestinian leaders with helicopter gunships and bomb dropping airplanes. Rabbis urge temple mount visit - In another provocative move, intended only to inflame the situation, the Rabbis of the occupied territories urge Israelis to occupy the temple mount. This is a move certain to please the religious right in the United States, who cannot wait for the animal sacrifices to resume on the Temple Mount 'in fulfillment of Jewish prophecy.'
