From the River - judging prophecy
May , 2002I was listening to a little of the show from the River because it seems to me that the host takes a lot of 'subtle slams' at the ministry of Eden I have been proclaiming, never naming me, which would be counter-productive, but nevertheless speaking to his audience in a kind of code. Today he dealt with the theme 'how can we tell if its from God', no doubt a growing controversy within the church lately, and one bound to grow more intense as time goes by. His answer, 'it its good its from God and if its bad its from the devil. I would rather be in the River myself, because the alternative is to be out in the desert somewhere.'
Now picking up his theme and running with it, I ask the following question since we need to determine what is and is not a 'prophecy from God'. How do we judge the following prophecy? Does the following prophecy come from God or not? (If its good it comes from God, right, and if its bad it must be from that Satan the Devil, right?)
"Burn your whole offerings and eat the flesh yourselves, for on the day that I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, I gave them no instructions or commands concerning whole offerings and sacrifice...How can you say, 'We are wise, for we have the Torah', when actually, the lying pen of the scribes had it falsified.' Jeremiah Chapters 7 and 8. Jeremiah rejects the Moses myth and LeviticusAnother strange thing about that 'From the River' show is that evangelist, as evangelists always tend to be, is bogged down in feudalism. A prophet, he seems to always be insisting, 'must be under the authority of the local church'. That's a novel idea in the history of prophecy. Pick a prophet, any prophet, and see what they felt about the 'authority' of the ministers of their day. Read a gospel to see what Yeshua thought about the 'authority' of the Pharisees of his day. Of course with prophets saying things about the priestly dogmatism like the above, well you can understand how there is nothing more than a minister or an evangelist might want than to get those troublesome prophets 'under authority' for a change, and if they can't, well then to spend a lot of time bogged down in feudal arguments about 'submitting to authority' and laying charges based on not doing so, which, when you consider it, is about all they can do under the circumstances (first invent a crime, then lay charges, then press for a conviction...interesting strategy, but won't work over the long term, think of something else...)
To summarize my commentary on that show then, once the From the River host manages to figure out whether or not the above prophecy is 'from God' or 'from Satan the Devil' then he might actually be qualified to give advice about 'judging prophecy' or any other advice he might want to give about 'authority of prophets' and 'submitting to church authorities' or any advice he might want to give about just about anything else.
