The Gospel of Thomas Verses 1 to 31 These are the secret sayings that the living Yeshua spoke and Judas Thomas the twin wrote down. 1 He said, "Whosoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will never experience death." 2 Yeshua said, "Let the one who is seeking continue to seek until one finds. When you find, you will become troubled. When you become troubled, you will be astonished and you will rule over everything." 3 Yeshua said, "If your leaders say to you, 'Look. The Kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds in the sky will get there before you do. If they say, 'it is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the Kingdom is inside of you and outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the Living One. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and you are that poverty." 4 Yeshua said, "The elderly will not hestitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life, and this is the person who will live. For many of the first will be last, and will become a single one." 5 Yeshua said, "understand what is in your sight, and what has been hidden from you will become clear to you. For there is nothing that is hidden that will not be revealed. 6 His disciples asked him, "Do you want us to fast? How shall we pray? Should we give alms to charity? What foods are we permitted to eat?" Yeshua said, "Do not tell lies and do not do what you hate, for all things are plain before heaven. For there is nothing that is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing is covered that will not be uncovered." 7 Yeshua said, "Blessed is the lion which is eaten by a human being, and so becomes human; but cursed is the human being that is eaten by a lion, and the lion then becomes human." 8 He said, "The Kingdom is like a wise fisher who cast a net into the sea and pulled it from the sea full of small fish. Among them the wise fisher found a fine big fish. So the small fish were thrown back into the sea and the large fish was chosen without a second thought. Whoever has ears to ear, let them hear. 9 Yeshua said, "Now the sower went out, took a handful of seeds, and scattered them. Some feel on the road and birds came and ate them. Some fell on the road and did not take root in the soil, and did not produce grain. Others feel among the thorns and they choked the seeds and worms devoured them. And others fell on good soil and produced a good crop, yielding sixty and one hundred twenty per measure." 10 Yeshua said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and look, I am guarding it until it is ablaze." 11 Yeshua said, "This heaven will pass away, and the heaven above it will pass away. The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. In the days when you ate what was dead, you made it alive. When you begin to dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one you became two. But on the day when you become two, what will you do? 12 The disciples said to Yeshua, "We know that you are going to leave us, and then who is going to be our leader?" Yeshua said to them, "No matter where you live, you are to go to James the Just, for the sake of whom heaven and earth came into being." 13 Yeshua said to his disciples, 'Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like." Simon Peter said to him, "You are like a righteous angel." Matthew said to him, "You are like wise philosopher." Thomas said to him, "Teacher, my mouth is unable to say whom you are like." Yeshua said, "I am not your teacher. Because you have drunk from the bubbling spring which I have tended, you have become drunk." And he took Thomas and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his friends, they asked him, "What did Yeshua say to you?" Thomas replied to them, "if I tell you even one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and stone me, and a fire will come forth from the stones and consume you in flames." 14 Yeshua said to them, "If you fast, you cause yourself to sin, and if you pray you will be condemned, and if you give alms to charity, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any nation and wander about the country, if they receive you, eat what they put before you, and heal their sick. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but rather that which comes out of your mouth is what will defile you." 15 Yeshua said, "When you see one who was not born of a woman, then bow down and worship him, for that one is your Father." 16 Yeshua said, "People think that maybe I have come to bring peace to the world. They do not understand that it is conflict that I have come to bring to the world; fire, sword, war. For there will be five people living in a house; three will against two and two against three, the father against the son and son against father, and they will stand alone. 17 Yeshua said, "I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard, and what no hand has touched and what has never entered the human mind." 18 The disciples said to Yeshua, "Tell us what the end will be." Yeshua said, "Have you already understood the beginning that you know look for the end? For where the beginning is, there the end will be. Blessed is the one who takes a stand at the beginning, for that person will know the end and will not experience death." 19 Yeshua said, "Blessed is the one who came to life before coming into being. If you become my disciples and listen my sayings these stones will serve you. For there are five trees for you in paradise which do not change in the summer or the winter and which never lose their leaves. Whoever knows of them will not taste death." 20 The disciples said, "Tell us what the Kingdom of Heaven is like." He said to them, "It is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on ready soil, it grows into the largest of plants and becomes a shelter for the birds." 21 Mary said to Yeshua, "Whom are your disciples like?" He said, "they are like children who are living in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field has come, they will say, "Give us back our field." The children will remove their clothes in the presence of the owners so that they may give back the field and return it to them. Therefore, I say to you, if the owner of a house knows that a thief is coming, the owner will be standing on guard and will not let one break into the house on the land and steal the goods. You, then, be on your guard against the world. Arm yourselves and prepare for battle, lest the thieves find a way to triumph over you, for the trouble you expect will come. Let there be among you a person with understanding. When the crop has ripened, a reaper will come quickly with sickle in hand to harvest. Whoever has ears to hear let them hear." 22 Yeshua saw infants being nursed. He said to his disciples, "these babies being nursed are like those who enter the Kingdom." They said to him, "then shall we enter the kingdom as infants?" Yeshua said to them, "When you make the two as one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and what is above like what is below, when you make the male and the female into one and the same thing, so that the male is no longer male, and the female is no longer female, and when you makes eyes to replace eyes, and hand to replace a hand, and a foot to replace a foot, and an image to replace an image, then you will enter into the Kingdom." 23 Yeshua said, "I shall choose you, one from a thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one." 24 His disciples said, "Show us the place where you are, for we must seek it." He said to them, "Whoever has ears to hear let them hear. There is light within a person of light and it enlightens the whole world. If the light does not shine, all is darkness." 25 Yeshua said, "Love your friend like your own soul, guard them like the pupil of your eye." 26 Yeshua said, "You see the speck that is in your friend's eye, but you do not see the beam that is in your own eye. When you see the beam that is in your own eye, you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your friend's eye." 27 If you do not fast from the world, you will not enter the Kingdom. If you not keep the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the Father. 28 Yeshua said, "I took my stand in the midst of the world, and I appeared to the people in the flesh. I found them all drunk and none of them were found to be thirsty. My soul was afflicted for the children of humanity, because they are blind in their hearts and have no sight; for they came into the world empty and they seek to leave the world empty. But they are drunk now. When they become sober from their wine, then they will repent." 29 Yeshua said, "It is amazing if the flesh came into being because of spirit. But if spirit came into being because of the body, it is even more of a wonder. I am amazed at how this great wealth has been found at home in this poverty." 30 Yeshua said, "Where there are three gods, they are divine. Where there are one or two, I am with them." 31 Yeshua said, "No prophet is accepted in his own town, and no doctor heals those who know him." |

The Canonical Gospels
John 8:51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps my word, they will never see death." Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11:9 And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 17:20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; Luke 17:21 nor will they say, 'Lo, here it is!' or 'There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you." Luke 17:22 And he said to the disciples, "The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Child of humanity, and you will not see it. Luke 17:23 And they will say to you, 'Lo, there!' or 'Lo, here!' Do not go, do not follow them. Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; Luke 10:21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, for such was thy gracious will. Matthew 18:4 Whoever humbles themselves like this child, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:5 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; Matthew 10:26 "So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known." Luke 12:2 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Matthew 13:47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; Matthew 13:48 when it was full, they drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. Matthew 13:3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. Matthew 13:4 And as it sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Matthew 13:5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, Matthew 13:6 but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away. Matthew 13:7 Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Mark 4:3 "A sower went out to sow. Mark 4:4 And as it sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Mark 4:5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it had not much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil; Mark 4:6 and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it had no root and withered away. Mark 4:7 Other seed fell among thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no grain. Mark 4:8 And other seeds fell into good soil and brought forth grain, growing up and increasing and yielding thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold." Luke 8:5 "A sower went out to sow some seed; and as it sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. Luke 8:6 And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. Luke 8:7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. Luke 8:8 And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." Luke 12:49 "I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled! Matthew 16:15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Mark 8:29 And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Luke 9:20 And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Luke 10:8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat whatever is set before you; Luke 10:9 heal the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' Matthew 15:11 It is not what goes into the mouth defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a person. Mark 7:15 There is nothing outside a person which by going into them can defile them; but the things which come out of a person are what defile them." Matthew 10:34 "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. Matthew 10:35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; Matthew 10:36 and a person's foes will be those of their own household. Luke 12:51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; Luke 12:52 for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; Luke 12:53 they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." 1 Corinthians 2:9 But, as it is written, "What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of humanity conceived, what God has prepared for those who love God." Matthew 13:31 Another parable he put before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a person took and sowed in a field; Matthew 13:32 it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches." Mark 4:30 And he said, "With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? Mark 4:31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; Mark 4:32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade." Luke 13:18 He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? Luke 13:19 It is like a grain of mustard seed which a person took and sowed in a garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches." Matthew 24:43 But know this, that if the householders had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, they would have watched and would not have let the house be broken into. Matthew 24:44 Therefore you also must be ready; for the Child of humanity is coming at an hour you do not expect. Luke 12:39 But know this, that if the householders had known at what hour the thief was coming, they would not have left their house to be broken into. Luke 12:40 You also must be ready; for the Child of humanity is coming at an unexpected hour." Mark 4:26 And he said, "The kingdom of God is as if a person should scatter seed upon the ground, Mark 4:27 and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should sprout and grow, they know not how. Mark 4:28 The earth produces of itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. Mark 4:29 But when the grain is ripe, at once they put in the sickle, because the harvest has come." Matthew 18:3 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:4 Whoever humbles themselves like this child, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Luke 18:17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." John 13:36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Matthew 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light; Matthew 6:23 but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Luke 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is sound, your whole body is full of light; but when it is not sound, your body is full of darkness. Luke 11:35 Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. Luke 11:36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light." Matthew 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your friend's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Matthew 7:4 Or how can you say to your friend, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your eye? Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your friend's eye. Luke 6:41 Why do you see the speck that is in your friend's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Luke 6:42 Or how can you say to your friend, ' let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your friend's eye. Matthew 13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Mark 4:19 but the cares of the world, and the delight in riches, and the desire for other things, enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. Mark 6:4 And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house." Mark 6:5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands upon a few sick people and healed them. Luke 4:23 And he said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, 'Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here also in your own country.'" Luke 4:24 He said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own town." John 4:44 For Jesus testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. |
