Behold, my anger and my wrath shall be poured out on this place, on man, and on animal, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. "Burn your whole offerings and eat the flesh yourselves, for when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, I gave them no instructions or commands, concerning whole offerings and sacrifice. But they did not listen, they paid no heed, and proceeded ahead with their own plans with the most stubbornly wicked and evil hearts...Now truth has perished from their lips. It is no longer heard in the land...How can you say, 'We are wise, for we have the Torah, when, actually, the lying pen of the scribes has had it falsified. Their leaders are dismayed, for they have been trapped and snared, but they rejected the Word of YAHWEH, so what kind of wisdom did they have...

Hark, the cry of the daughter of my people from the length and breadth of the land: "Is Yahweh not with her? Is her God not in her?" "Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with their foreign idols?" "The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved." ... They bend their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me, says Yahweh ... Every one deceives his neighbor, and no one speaks the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they commit iniquity and are too weary to repent. Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit, they refuse to know me, says Yahweh. Therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Behold, I will refine them and test them, for what else can I do, because of my people? Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceitfully ... "Take up weeping and wailing for the mountains, and a lamentation for the pastures, because they are laid waste so that no one passes through, and the lowing of cattle is not heard; both the birds of the air and the beasts have fled and are gone ... Who is wise enough to understand this? To whom has the mouth of Yahweh spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through? And Yahweh says: "Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, or walked in accord with it, but have stubbornly followed their own hearts and have gone after the Baals, just as their ancestors taught them. (Note: the meaning of the word 'Baal' is 'the Lord and Master') ... Therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood, and give them poisonous water to drink ... "
