Eden on Earth Day, 2002

See also Eden Earth Day 2001

Update as of May 9th

The tropical system north of Madagascar is approaching the coast of Southern Africa and already is pushing cloud cover and moisture inland. Southern Africa has suffered a terrible drought this winter, and is facing starvation this summer, so this is actually good news. For those who remember that terrible Mozambique storm not so long ago, this particular system has been toward the lower end of the scale as such storms go, and thus its reaching land should do more good than harm. In the North, another tropical storm is just off the tip of Somalia, another place with drought problems, and it is also a relatively weak system, at the lower end of the scale and thus should also bring a lot of rain without the terribly destructive high winds of a truly powerful system. Over Eden, what seemed to have the potential to be a vortex, seems to just to be a very large thunderstorm system. According to the cloud height measurement system, the clouds range from 10 to over 12 kilometers in height, in otherwords, a thunderstorm system, with perhaps supercell storm systems in the coldest and highest area near the mid section. On the theme of all sorts of interesting things going on around that desert, on the other side of the desert there is this strong easterly movement on the Amazon which is pushing some clouds towards the desert from the Western side. This looks interesting as an animation and if anything dramatic looking developes out of this (it just started today) I will post a small animation on this site...

A large storm system, composed of towering thunderclouds, perhaps a thousand miles long and hundreds of miles wide, spanning about a third of the desert...What a beautiful sight. Any country that wanted rain would be glad to receive something like that...

When I see this system moving out from South America, home of the most bio-diverse eco-system on the planet, I think of 'seeds'...

Update as of May 8th

The tropical storm just north of Madagascar has regenerated after virtually disappearing on the 7th, as mentioned in the earlier posts below. This is a large, but relatively weak system tracking westward, and provided that it does not become a monster storm, which is not forecast, it could bring some much needed rain to southern Africa, in the grips of a drought. So I consider seeing this system 'rise from the dead' to be good news, and was disappointed to see it fizzle out and disappear yesterday, since it is a relatively weak system, and could do more good than harm if it makes it westward into Southern Africa. The storm just off the Coast of Saudi Arabia has moved Westward. According to the forecast, an encounter with the Saudi Coast should cause the storm to fizzle. Meanwhile, the really interesting events are taking place on the desert itself where it seems to be the case that pressure system and a revolving vortex is forming. This is something new, and it remains to be seen what is going on here. However if it is a vortex it is enormous, making that puny storm off the Saudi Coast pale into insignificance. I have found every day to be very interesting lately, and today is no exception. The collage below shows three pics of events on the 8th in the Water Vapor spectrum which seem to show the beginning of a vortex, followed by two infra-red shots of cloud cover on the 8th...

The following shots are from another angle, the first in the Water Vapor spectrum and the second showing cloud cover in the infra-red spectrum ... from this angle the circular, revolving appearance of a vortex is more pronounced...

Some photos of Eden, 1st week of May 2002
The last photo, May 5th, 2002

I have been curious about the cloud with the circle in the midst of it in the last photo in the series, since it is usually indicative of a spinning vortex.

If it is a vortex it is still undefined. The next photo is below, the last available during the evening of May 5, 2002, as I am posting this, and the photo just below it shows the vortex that appeared during May of 2001 and was posted on the storm prophecy page

Two spinning storms in the Indian ocean, May 5, 2002

The one just north of Madagascar is well developed tropical storm, with wind speeds currently about 70 miles per hour...(Note it went dead as doornail on Monday and now, on Tuesday the southern storm has gone, and now the Northern storm is a tropical storm...)

I have always been interested in observing 'whirling tempests' anywhere near Eden, for reasons of my own. On this day there is vortex just to south, north of Madacascar, a vortex, not as well defined but spinning none the less just below Saudi Arabia, and another less defined possible vortex in North Central Eden. There are similarities between the two images (the spinning vortex pulling up clouds, both the vortex during May of 2001 and the possible vortex I see today are in the same spot on the desert, for example, but the current images do not yet show a really well defined spinning vortex at this time...) I am usually interested in whirling tempests anywhere near Eden because of the influence of prophets such as this one...

Jeremiah 30 as well as Jeremiah 23 (some selections of these Storm prophecies from last years Eden Watch pages...)

23 Behold the storm of YAHWEH! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
24 The fierce anger of YAHWEH will not turn back until Yahweh has executed and accomplished the intents of GOD's mind. In the latter days you will understand this.

A video of the rains over Eden for the week ended May 5, 2002 (requires real player ) - eden - real media 56 kb Most of the activity has been in the West and the center, and once again during the middle of the week, you can see clouds spewed out from the rain forest and crossing the Saudi Arabian desert and bringing rains over Iran (the third and fourth photos in the collage above)... another video which covers the last few days over the indian ocean shows the development of a tropical storm currently heading due west north of Madagascar, and a spinning system in the Northern Indian ocean. If the storm near Madagascar does track west, it could drop significant amounts of rain over parts of Southern Africa that have suffered drought, and also face starvation this summer...

The storm in the south seems to have gone down, going against the forecasts that it would strengthen, this week. Conversely the storm in the North is now a tropical storm, and is forecast to head West-Northwest...The forecast needs to be taken with a grain of salt, since it was wrong for the southern storm, which suddenly dissolved and vanished, but these forecasts are usually pretty accurate. As of May 7th the forecast states "071500z3 position near 13.1n5 62.6e4. Tropical cyclone (tc) 01a, located in the north arabian sea approximately 580 nm east-southeast of oman, has tracked west-northwestward at 10 knots over the past 6 hours. The warning position is based on 071130z2 multisprectral satellite imagery. The warning intensity is based on satellite current intensity estimates of 35 knots. Animated visible satellite imagery indicates that the low level circulation center is fully exposed with the deep convection located in the western semicircle. Animated water vapor imagery depicts continued outflow in the North Western quadrant. The system is expected to track west-northwestward guided by the subtropical ridge anchored just off the coast of northwestern India."

A trip west-NorthWest would carry the storm into Eastern Eden, if it can survive a trip accross Saudi Arabia, or better yet if it skirts the coast and goes in through Somalia and Ethiopia. The West North West outflow could push water vapor and cloud cover into Eastern Eden either way. I find that everyday lately is interesting and full of the unexpected, and as I recall when I awoke this morning I thought to myself this morning (the 7th) that I hoped that this day would also be as unexpectedly interesting as most seem to have been lately, and with that uexpected whirling tempest off the East Coast of Eden it has been... hopefully it will head right down that tunnel of water rather than wasting itself going over Saudi Arabia, which would make the next few days interesting as well...Another strange and interesting thing about the videos is that the storm in the north above the equator is spinning in the opposite direction to the storm just below the equator in the south, truly one of the odd things about the world's climate, and noticeable when you have two vortexes just accross the equator from each other as in the following videos...
