Eden Watch
An interesting set of maps is on the Global vegetation health site...these show a gradual greening of the desert taking place with certain spots in the desert even given a healthy vegetation rating, as compared to being given a rating of being totally ruined at the same time last year. Red is bad, green is good, blue is best...

According to the prophecies that were made concerning Eden on Earth Day 2002, there would be signs of Eden in the Spring of 2002 and then they would disappear and die off to reappear later, and this is what happened. What is supposed to happen next, the second part of that Eden prophecy, which has not yet been fulfilled, is that Eden is to reappear slowly, 'creeping back' as it was described at that time, and when it reappears it will remain. The time frame for this to occur is sometime between the fall of 2002 and sometime in 2003. The weather has been developing turbulence over the desert since August and there are a few scattered green patches on the desert at this time (mid September 2002) and so it seems that this 'creeping' process might be underway and slowly beginning to emerge now. Time will tell... The situation has worsened in Iran, and it appears that their drought is returning. The map below shows the scattered green patches as of September 10th, 2002, and the turbulence can be viewed on the Sahara rain report page...
The latest images show increasing greenness just as the latest satellite photos show increasing rain over the desert (posted on October 7th, 2002). What is remarkable here is how early the transition is beginning this winter over the desert, with the October images resembling the late winter March images earlier this year. This is a good sign, since the Sahara is a desert because it is a desert - in otherwords the cure for a desert is plants, which through the process of transpiration through their leaves release water ground water into the atmosphere as part of the hydrological cycle which produces rain, which produces plants, which produce more rain. Last year the plant perished shortly after April during the intensely dry Sahara summer, and now that winter is coming, and plants are appearing early and the rains have been heavy it seems that everything is in place for plants to colonize the desert and conquer the desert over the course of this winter, having about 7 months to do so. The early October start looks very promising, and indeed, since last winter the desert has been more interesting than its ever been in all the years that I been monitoring the situation there...
In the above collage, the image on the top left is the vegetation image for October 6th, 2002, and beside it is the image for the end of April 2002, before the harsh summer set in and everything was destroyed. Below on the bottom row is an October sunrise image of clouds over the desert, and beside this is the infrared image for the evening of October 7th, 2002, which shows more clouds pushing into the desert. At the far right on the bottom is the Eden Wing, Earth Day 2001 (the promise of Eden reappearing over the desert). What is remarkable in the above image is how far back the desert has been pushed since earlier this spring, since it was an extremely good year on the Sahel which borders the desert to the south. Bright blue signifies the healthiest vegetation, and not only is the Sahel much improved this year, the desert has receded significantly. (See the previous story, based on a story Sahara desert retreating from the NewScientist magazine site. Last fall the FAO had a story about farmers beginning to push northward to try homesteading in what were previously desert areas, and the changes were in no way as signficant as those illustrated on the maps above. Based on what I am seeing the Sahara desert is soon to be history, and this will be the Winter and upcoming spring and summer of 2003 that will see the dramatic change taking place...

I stopped updating this page in November 2001, when it became apparent that the change was going to take a while after the desert still wasn't responding to all the rains it had received up to that time, and decided to wait until something significant happened before reposting
You can notice a marked deterioration in the condition of Iran in this map (a blue streak once existed indicating the healthiest vegetation, and now the entire Middle East, including Iran has gone downhill). The maps are assembled by computer based on satellite measurements and the way vegetation reflects certain wavelengths of light, with the greenest areas seeming to correspond to those places that received the most rains, based on my observations.
The following small Real media file (requires Real Player) shows the rain pattern from the last week of March to the middle of April, 2002 and you can see that along with the desert Iran has been rained on repeatedly for weeks. ... edenapr13.ram (88 kb) ... Why do people say, "My lot is hidden from YAHWEH. My cause goes unheeded by my God"? Do you not know? Have you not heard? YAHWEH, the eternal God, creator of earth's farthest bounds, does not grow weary or faint; God's understanding cannot be fathomed, who gives vigour to the weary, new strength to the exhausted. Even the young may grow weary and faint, even the fittest may stumble and fall. But those who to YAHWEH will find new strength. They shall mount up on wings as eagles; they will run and not feel faint, march on and not grow weary." (Isaiah chapter 40 verse 27)
Speaking of prophecy I cannot get out my mind a few lines from a psalm, the vision of one of the largest mass migrations in history, as the desert becomes a fertile home once again, an Eden once again, and some time in the future I look forward to seeing it actually happen...
Psalm 107:32 : YAHWEH turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.
And there the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in;
they sow fields, and plant vineyards, and get a fruitful yield.
Under blessing they multiply greatly.
"The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus
it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of YAHWEH, the majesty of our God.
Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.
Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God and will come and save you."
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
then shall the lame man leap like a hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;
the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

"A voice cries out, 'Prepare a path through the wilderness for YAHWEH, prepare a highway across the desert for our God. Let every valley be raised, every mountain and hill be brought low, uneven ground made smooth, and steep places become a level plain. Then the Glory of YAHWEH will be revealed and all humanity will see it ... Climb to a high mountaintop, you who bring good news to Eden. Raise your voice and shout aloud, and say, 'Your God is near.' Here comes YAHWEH God, coming with power, coming to rule with powerful arm. Recompense comes before and God's reward is there as well. Like a shepherd YAHWEH will tend to the flock, gently rocking the lambs and leading the mother ewes to water." (Isaiah chapter 40 verse 3)

"For YAHWEH will comfort Eden; will comfort all her waste places, and will make her wilderness like the Garden of Eden, her desert like the garden of YAHWEH; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of song.." (Isaiah chapter 51 verse 3)
