The revised estimates for the cost of the damage caused by Katrina are now 200 billion dollars.

The hurricane is estimated to have destroyed about four hundred thousand jobs, most of them in the New Orleans area, which is the countries only deep water port for oil imports, and is also a big exporting facility. These are the largest ports in the nation.

Because of higher transportation costs and shortages caused by disruptions in imports, grocery bills will be going higher, and since the gasoline tab is already up by about a billion a week, it seems likely that the food bill will be going up by billions as well.

FEMA is currently spending about one to two billion dollars a day, which means that the 10.5 billion originally allocated will be spent in the next couple of days, thus leading to the request for 50 billion.

Raising the levees around New Orleans to level required for a level 5 hurricane would have cost between one and two billion dollars. This means that for the cost of one or two days spending by FEMA the city of New Orleans could have been spared from destructino, and the nation could have been spared much of the hundreds of billions of dollars in associated costs of this disaster.

But the ideology of 'privatization' and 'downsizing' and 'the free market' excludes the spending of money by the government on any program other than the military industrial complex, and spending that one or two billion was rejected as prohibitively expensive. For as any good book keeper knows, you really have to watch those nickels, and then the dollars will take care of themselves.

It is worth noting here that during the approach of Hurricane Ivan, the Cubans were able to evacutate close to 1.5 million people out of the disaster zone using a prearranged disaster response system, with the result that there was not a single loss of life, despite the fact that Ivan was a storm almost as bad as Katrina. When it looked like Ivan was about to hit New Orleans last year, once again the same poor people were abandoned to their fate, just as they were this year, and the city was only spared the destruction we have just seen when at the last minute Ivan took a turn and missed New Orleans...(See Hurricane Katrina and the 'free market')

Bombs not Food

!0 million for famine, 500 million for military

After appealing for famine money since the locust plague last year, at the end of July the U.N. finally received a donation of 10 million dollars for the famine victims in Niger. Meanwhile Niger is receiving 500 million dollars in military aid, for, you see, Niger is a rich source of the Uranium required for the production of Weapons of Mass Destruction. This is on top of the millions Niger is receiving in the form of military training in what is supposedly training for the 'war against terrorism', but as is the case in all poor countries, is actually part of the machinary of oppression of the poorest people on earth, and thus best described as the 'war against revolution' , the exact same tactic you see practiced against the Bolivians, and all other third world people, and since it is for such a good cause, receives many billions in funding without the need for constant appeals.

Bombs not Food. This is the slogan for the current capitalist system, and unlike appeals for food money which go unanswered, Bomb money flows in a steady stream, forked over with remarkable generosity, as you would expect money to flow like gusher, when its for a good cause.

Close to 20 million people are malnourished in the SubSaharan region with 8 locust hit nations on the famine danger list. Already the famine in Niger, with 3 million starving, is being called one of the biggest relief operations in history, or it could be, depending on whether or not the monstrous governments of the world, who have been stubbornly refusing to fork over so much as a dime, actually find some spare change in their capitalistic wallets for Food, not Bombs. These are the same governments who put on a big sham of pretending to be generous during that Live 8 / G8 propaganda scam, where a honey pot was set out to keep busy activists real busy pressuring governments to keep to their time table of providing debt relief to Africa in the year 2010, just as they eliminated child poverty in the year 2000, if anyone remembers that other phony honey pot from the past.

The disaster in Niger has been worsened by IMF policies through which a 19 percent tax was added onto the price of food, and food was to be made subject only to pure market forces, which then led to the abolition of the system of emergency grain reserves (the capitalistic logic behind such cruelty being that having free food around would 'distort the market'). To make matters worse organizations such as the U.N. drag their feet when it comes to giving out free food as do so many Aid agencies, on the theory that once again this will distort those precious capitalistic market forces, which just goes to show you how deeply entrenched that twisted inhumane ideology of capitalistic greed has become in this world.

Those of you who understand the significance of propaganda should be able to understand that the Live 8 event signified that people like the Bolivians and the Venezuelans are finally winnning their centuries long battle with those Capitalists, thus requiring Capitalists to start caring, or at least try to look like they care, these being capitalists you should remember. And wouldn't you know it, next thing you know that Osama Bin Laden would show up and start blowing up working class people so that politicians could then take away some more of their civil rights. I would like to take this opportunity to inject some common sense into what is obviously a panic stricken population of Capitalists, by reminding those Capitalists to show some common sense when they make their next move, and not blow themsevles up to many times, because its not good for business.

Personally, I think this operation looks more like a classic Karl Rove operation, rather than an Osama operation, since you see humor is really neccessary to help the Bolivians with that job of theirs, since it really is fatal to take seriously something as utterly stupid as that neoliberalism and 'third world reformism' as a cover story for centuries of imperialist colonialism, but unfortunately, we can't laugh about it anymore, because Osama doesn't seem to have a sense of humor. Having thought it over, I have come to the conclusion that it must be the plan of Karl Rove to make sure that no one ever laughs again, this perhaps being his great propoaganda move since really when you stop and think about it something like that would have to be done, thus keeping all of humanity grimly serious forever and and ever from now on, and thus more in the mood to the lose all of their civil rights, up to and including the Magna Carta, something they wouldn't be willing to put up with if they were in a more cheerful mood.

Over 65 million children have died of hunger and malnutrition since this website was founded.

For those who encounter the Javascript error, as of Septemberthe Cost of the War in Iraq was around 200 billion. The starved baby counter was at around 70 million.

Setting Priorities

For the cost of the Iraq War one of the following could have been funded (which is worth keeping in mind when politicians drag out that bit about there not being any money to pay for anything...)...Note that only one of these could be funded. If someone wanted all of these funded it would be required that the Bush tax cuts be eliminated, as well as the tax cuts implemented around the world...

World Hunger could be eliminated for nine years.
Number of Starved Babies saved - all of them.
Over 25 million children could have attended pre-shool daycare.
Over 50 million children could have received health insurance.
Over 3,300,000 school teachers could have been hired.
Over 5,000,000 low income students could have attended four years of university.
Over 3,000,000 low income housing units could have been built.
Eighty per cent of the debt of the most heavily indebted poor countries could have been paid off.

None of these items were funded because they are not a national priority, and besides, 'we just can't afford it'. It is worth noting that all these programs stimulate the global economy, and thus the argument that further tax cuts must be given to really rich people to 'stimulate the economy' and 'create jobs' is a red herring. According to the Los Angeles times, top Pentagon officials "are studying the lessons of Iraq closely to ensure that the next U.S. takeover of a foreign country goes more smoothly. 'We’re going to get better over time,' said Lawrence Di Rita. 'We’ve always thought of post-hostilities as a phase ... the future of war is that these things are going to be much more of a continuum. ... We’ll get better as we do it more often." Bush was surrounded by anti aircraft guns at the Genoa G-8 summit, and spent the evenings on the U.S.S. Enterprise a few months before 9-11, a navy ship bristling with anti-aircraft guns, the airport at Genoa was shut down, and all air travel cancelled, with a no fly zone established over Genoa. since the international intelligence community received info that indicated that Bin Laden was planning to use a suicide jet liner as flying bomb to assassinate Bush at Genoa.

We know that after 9-11 Bush quipped 'Lucky me - I hit the trifecta' - note that 'trifecta' connotes gambling on something...

The Patriot act was introduced days later, and seemed to have been written before 9-11

All sorts of weird evidence turned up shortly after 9-11 (copies of the Koran in cars along with flight manuals in Arabic, an unburned passport of 'a muslim terrorist' turned up outside the wreckage of the trade center, the names of the terrorists were released swiftly, showing remarkable intelligence work, some of whom turned up alive in other countries).

The defense of the Bush administration is that they were stupid and incompetent, but given that we also know that the war in Iraq, as well as the occupation of the Caucusus region that took place during the Afghan war was all part of the plan for 'Rebuilding America's Defenses' in the "new American Century' and in the same document it also states that the plan for a global empire formed by the extreme right wing in America would be next to impossible to complete 'absent another Pearl Harbor'

We are given the choice here of choosing between stupidity and incompetence or thumb sitting and waiting (a kind of passive conspiracy, waiting to 'get lucky' and then 'hit the trifecta')

A white wash investigation naturally puts the focus on a so called 'intelligence failure', roasting the managers and file keepers at the FBI or CIA, but the evidence reached the top, and so this is nonsense. The problem resides at the top, not in procedure or processes at the bottom, nor was this an example of a 'great intelligence failure' since the intelligence existed and was also known at the top, therefore procedures for dealing with intelligence information were not at fault. The fault lies at the very top of the administration (incompetent stupidity or deliberate stone walling and waiting for 9-11, take your pick). The fault lies at the top, and for this reason the 9-11 investigation was delayed as long as it was.

The following article from the end of June 2001, reports on the agreement of both India and Iran to be 'on board' for the attack on Afghanistan as the American government was already busy in the region building an anti-Afghanistan war coalition. Note that this year, at the end of May 2002, the ink is dry on the Afghan pipeline deal...Note that Iran is not in on the deal, having become a terrorist state since then...

Indian officials say that India and Iran will only play the role of "facilitator" while the US and Russia will combat the Taliban from the front with the help of two Central Asian countries, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, to push Taliban lines back to the 1998 position 50 km away from Mazar-e-Sharief city in northern Afghanistan. (Note that this is exactly what happened.) ...

Diplomats say that the anti-Taliban move followed a meeting between US Secretary of State Collin Powel and Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and later between Powell and Indian foreign minister Jaswant Singh in Washington. Russia, Iran and India have also held a series of discussions and more diplomatic activity is expected ...

Officials say that the Northern Alliance requires a "clean up" operation to reduce Taliban's war-fighting machinery to launch an attack against the Taliban advance to the Tajik-Afghan border. This "clean up" action is being planned by the US and Russia since the Taliban shows no "sign of reconciliation". (Note: once again everything went exactly as planned last summer)...

Such Central Asian countries as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are threatened by the Taliban that is aiming to control their vast oil, gas and other resources by bringing Islamic fundamentalists into power. Now all the CIS nations are seeking assistance of Russia's Federal Border Guard Service to overcome the Taliban threat ... India, Iran and Russia, for example, are working on a broad plan to supply oil and gas to south Asia and southeast Asian nations through India but instability in Afghanistan is posing a great threat to this effort ... India's official position is for a "peaceful and lasting solution" to the Afghan problem. But it strongly advocates strict economic sanctions against Taliban and is also not averse to a "limited military action" to weaken it. India plans to raise the Afghanistan issue in the forthcoming G-8 summit in Geneva in mid-July.
